Grand Bay Sports Committee holds ‘Volunteer Day’

Volunteers during the event

The Southern District Sports Committee, in collaboration with the newly formed Grand Bay Sports Committee headed by Nora Francis, on Saturday held a successful “Volunteer Day” at the Geneva Playing Field.

Over twenty five persons including Parliamentary Representative and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Justina Charles turned out to give the Geneva Playing Field a general face lift, which have brought a visible change to the playing area.

At a recently held retreat of the District Sports Committee it was agreed that a feature on its yearly calendar would be a quarterly “Volunteer Day” in one of the seven communities in the District.  Completion of the Geneva project will be on February 4 and the next project is expected to be in the Bagatelle community.

In other news, the Justina Charles Southern District Football League on Sunday, Canefield Strikers won Petite Savanne 2 goals to 0.  Teston Pacquette and Henson Henderson scored one goal each.

In the second match, Nora Francis Young Gunners defeated Delices 4 goals to 1. Daniel Ormond scored 2, and Davis Williams and Shervon Bellot 1 each.

It is a shame that a significant number of people have a light esteem for Grand Bayrians and very amazing to eperience the hammony among them both at home and abroad. What is viewed above is just the tip of the iceberg. These are the people who consolidated the bilateral relationship with Cuba in 1974 together with Pierre Charles and Rossie Douglas and in those days were regarded as goats following Rossie. Today ther is not a single lawyer or docter that has studied in Cuba from Grand Bay.They were held captive under the Nassief occupation for decades before they disencumbered from this impulsive circumstance and fought for their freedom.while struggling tiredlessly with Rossie to structerize the Labour Party, we called communist. They fought vigerously against Eugenia’s refferendom in support of Dominica’s independence. Now they have lost their captain and their ship for a decade the captain in charge has built them a jail instead of adressing the issues of principal concern.

Valid points indeed, good job by volunteers. Those at the helm today have lost focus. But again…. why would Grandbay need a medical school nor a call center to employ its youth when they politicians can score points by building them a jail instead?
