Grandson of Marigot native makes it to US NFL

Orson Charles

Just days after Dominican Aniska Tonge, the daughter of two Marigot natives, was crowned Miss Virgin Islands 2012, the people of Marigot and indeed the people of Dominica, have been given another reason to be proud.

Orson Charles, grandson of another Marigot son-of-the soil, Jeffrey Charles, has been selected to play in the National Football League (NFL) in the United States.

Charles who plays American football in the united States, was selected by the Cincinati Bengals in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Congrats to the young man….i urge u to go out there and do your best, apply your skills and learn from what you are taught and please don’t allow critics to break you but rather use each one in a positive way to stepping up high and making a bigger name for yourself and Country at large……We (Dominicans) are very very proud of your achievements so far…all the best

@bwai kwiab ….again you can have two beers an not be judgmentally impaired but fail the test…..the rules are very strict in America…you could end up loosing your doctors licenses over a beer or two…really stupid…………but it is done to protect others on the road…. in Dominica people drink beers and drive and they do not have accidents…again stop acting like the young man is a criminal or alcoholic….

i hope he get traded to a better team….and i hope he get a designated driver when he decides to drink in the future

@ bud man…….so Dominicans don’t go to the movies?…and tourists don’t play golf?…..hey there are different sizes of golf courses you know…..its not to play the PGA’s……and whats so difficult about a mall with 2 or three theaters?…….

    • budman
      August 20, 2012

again i ask you is it sustainable. are we going to go every day to ensure that the insurance, utilities and maintenance is paid? the theatres you mentioned were in the mall. as for the golf courses in order to entice tourist to travel to DA to play golf you are going to have to have a world class golf course. do remember all the other traditional tourist islands have golf courses already. so we have to come strong to attract. again we have the funding for maintenance and insurance?

@ bwai kiab…..if he was not arrested? for dui? was he arrested? wwh what was his alcohol content? maybe the guy just drank one beer and decided to drive…you get pulled over for speeding or something else and they give you a test if they smell alcohol…………..its very easy to go over the limit of 0.5%..

and i do not think 2 beers will impair ones judgement on the road..but is is enough to make you fail a Breathalyzer test….that is why a lot of people take the risk…i used warn a couple of my friends…

so stop making it sound like the guy is criminal and alcoholic….i don’t know him…he may be or he may just be unfortunate that time he was stopped

    • tiny

      correction..why was he arrested?..dui/dwi?

    • bwa kwaieb
      August 20, 2012

I’m certain that you’re not capable of engaging in an intelligent conversation but I ‘ll make an exception today. I’ve followed this guy through his games at UGA. My point was that if he wasn’t impaired and then subsequently arrested he would have gotten better teams to play for because he’s pretty good. He had a bunch of teams lined up to give him a shot but after the arrest some of them withdrew their interests. It would seem that his arrest was public knowledge. I didn’t know you guys were trying to keep it a secret. But, why should I be surprised. Dominicans are notorious for putting up facades. ANyways Go Saints!!!!! :-D

bw kwaib …shut up you are talking about America..where you cant legally buy alcohol at the age of 18 but you can act in porn movies at that age….they praise you or condemn or critisize for rideiculous reasons ..it is confusing…………..just today i read on the news that a valedictorian was denied her diploma for saying the word hell in her speech…these are the same people living in sins

    • Sout Man
      August 20, 2012

“….over the limit of 0.5%”. Which country has such high limit? That’s the level of blood alcohol poisoning!! Has the US and UK, among other countries changed from the 0.08% limit?

So a person from marigot please translate it for me”When it is good say it is good”. I wish Honourable James could translate for me, he adds such flavour to whatever he says. Love you Mr. James.

Soon American Eagle going to rest and we find ourself further than last in the pack. Think wisely, DA ain’t ready for u yet. When we get some serious leaders that can show us the blue print for the country in the next 5yrs and beyond you can think of serious investment in your motherland. Right now those that their i for me, myself and I; take no part in that boss…..See u in the games..

Please give him a chance to excel in his career and make some funds for his personal use.
You can take this up with him sometime. :) I think that if in time he builds a golf course in DA it will be somewhere in the Marigot area. If so, I would not blame him one bit.
A golf course and with safety regulations would make Dominica a popular place to visit and put it on the worldwide map. Let us keep dreaming! Dreams as wishing and hoping sometimes come true. :)
