Guyana to play in Dominica this week

A view of the Windor Park Stadium

The Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica will be the venue for back to back games for the Guyana cricket team starting Friday February 3, 2012.

That’s the word from the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) because of the ongoing impasse between the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and the government-appointed interim management committee (IMC) in Georgetown.

The decision comes following a WICB directors teleconference on Saturday, after both the GCB and IMC had submitted teams to represent the country in the four-day competition, which bowls off on Friday.

The impasse has also put in doubt Guyana’s hosting of the third Test of the Digicel Home Series against Australia, scheduled for April 23-27 at the National Stadium.

According to a WICB media release, the WICB’s decision to shift the regional matches was made after the Guyana government failed to sign the agreement document drafted, following discussions between the WICB, the government of Guyana and the Secretary General of CARICOM, Irwin LaRocque, on January 10.

“The WICB restates its full support to the government of Guyana’s Interim Management Committee functioning as an advisory body.

The WICB will not recognise or approve any entity other than the GCB as the authorised governing body for cricket in Guyana,” the release added.

As a result, Guyana will play their first two matches of the four-day tournament at Windsor Park, Dominica, while the venues for their next two matches will be decided at a later date.

The release also stated that the WICB will announce its position with regard to the 3rd Digicel Test after discussions with other stakeholders.

The Guyana team is already on island and the Leewards team is set to arrive in Dominica on January 31, 2012.

DA, this is our time to shine. Save something for the cricket don’t spend it all on carnival. We need to take advantage of every opportunity to show our support for cricket. I think Dominica is in the making to be a premier site for West Indies cricket so let’s not blow it.

GREETINGS ALL, WELCOME TO THE GUYUNA TEAM. I HAVE THIS TO SHARE. THIS AN AN OPPORTUNTITY FOR THE WINDWARDS SELTORS TO ADVANCE THE CASE FOR A CERTAIN KAVEM HODGE TO IMPRESS THE WEST INDIES SELECTORS. THIS YOUNG MAN HAS BEEN PROLIFIC FROM UNDER 15 TO WEST INDIES UNDER 19 SCORING HEAVILY IN ALL LEVELS OF HIS GAME AND IS A BATTING ALLROUNDER THE MOST PROMISISNG DOMINICAN CRICKETER TODAY. STILL HE IS ON RESERVE. EVERYOTHER TEAM EXPOSES THEIR WEST INDIES YOUTH PLAYERS TO MAKE A SCASE TO THE WEST INDIES SELETORS. LIAM SEBASTEIN MUST MNAKE WAY FOR KAVEM HODE AND RIGHT NOW. LIAM HAS NOT BEEN CONSISTENT AND HAS BEEN GIVEN A LIONG RUN ON THE TEAM KAVEM HAS EARNED HIS PLACE AND I THINK THE SAME THAT WAS DONE TOMERVIN MATTHEW IS BEING DONE TO KAVEM HODGE. THIS YOUNG MAN IS HUNGRY FOR RUNS HAS JUST COME FROM A STINT AT AN AUSTRALIAN ACADEMY JUST TO BE LEFT ONT HE WINDWARDS BENCH. THIS IS BAFFLING WHEN WE ALL KNOW THAT LIAM IS THE ONE WHO MUST BE PLACED ION THE BENCH AND KAVEM GIVEM THE FIRST ELEVN PLACE. HECAN FIELD ANYWHERE AND BOWLS LEG BREAKS TO GIVE THE TEAM SOME ARIATION WITH SHANE ON THE OTHER END. HE CAN BAT AT ANY NUMBER FROM 3 TO 6. HE IS THE PLAYER WHO SHOULD NOT BE LEFT ON THE BENCH AT ALL BECASUE THE OTHER YOUTH PLAYERS HE TOPURED WITH ARE GETTING THEIR PLACES ON THEIR REGIONAL TEAMS STRONGER LINE UPS THAN WINDWARDS BUT NO NOT HODGE. SOMETHING IS TERRIBLY WRONG WITH THIS WHEN SELECTORS FEEL THAT THEY OPWE LORCHART SEBASTEIN A FAVOR BY CONTINUING WITH LIAM WHO WILL NOT MAKE THE WEST INDIES AND HOLD DOWN KAVEM WHO HAS A PERFECT CRICKET MACHINE AND YOUNG FIT DISCIPLINE AND IS A PERFOEMER HE HAS NEEVR FAILED AT ANY KLEVEL FOR THE PAST SEVEN YEARS WHAT DOES HE HAVE TO DO TO BE ON THE WINDWARDS FIRST ELEVEN. THIS BLOGGER WILL COME OUT PUBLICLY IN ADVOCATING FOR KAVEMS SELECTION SOON. MY TEAM WOULD READ IN BATTING ORDER: SMITH, CHARLES, LESPORIS, KAVEN HODGE, THE GRENADIAN LEFT HANDER (KEEPER & BATSMAN) SAMMY, ST VINCENT WICKET KEEPER / BATSMAN, SHANE, MATHURIN,KENROY PETER AND PASCAL. THIS TEAM WOULD BE BETTER BALANCED AND HAVE BATTING DOWN TO SHANE SHILLINGFORD WITH PACE BOWLING IN PASCAL, MEDIUM PACE IN PETERS AND SAMMY, MEDIUM PACE, IN MATHURIN AND SPIN IN SHANE AND HODGE. THERE ARE TWO WICKET KEEPERS AND ALL GUYS AT THE TOP CAN BAT AND IF THEY REMAIN AT THE CREASE FOR ONE DAY THE TEAM CAN SCORE 350 CONSISTENTLY AND IF THEY DO NOT FORCE OUTRIGHT WINS CAN FORCE TEAMS TO DRAW CONSISTENTLY. KAVEM HODGE SHOULD NEVER BE ON RESERVE IN MY VIEW HE SHOULD HAVE AN AUTOMATIC PLACE ON THE FIRST ELEVEN AND IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO INCLUDE HIM ON THE TEAM FOR THOSE TWO HOME GAMES. LET US STOP HOLDING DOWN THE PLAYERS WHO A MOST LIKEL;Y TO IMPRESS THE SELECTORS IF WE DO NOT EXPOSE HIM HOW WILL HE MAKE THE WEST INDIES WHEN HIS REGIONAL TEAM KEEPS HIM ON THE BENCH??? WE ARE THE ONE KILLING OUR PLAYER’S DREAMS AND IT WILL NOT HAPPEN TO KAVEM NOT ON MY WATCH. SEBO KNOWS THAT HIS SON HAS BEEN ALLOWED A FAIR RUN ON THE TEAM THERE IS NO IMPROVEMENT AND LIAM’S SCORES HAS NOT BEEN ENCOURAGUING FOR SOME TIME NOW, SO ON WHAT BASIS HAS HE BEEN RETAINED IN THE ELEVEN AND KAVEM WHO THE WEST INDIES SELECTORS ARE WATCHING IS ON THE RESERVE BENCH?????

my God…if you want people to read what you write please use lower case and section in paragraphs! What is the use in posting if nobody can read it?

From the little my eyes could bare to read: I hope you are not pushing Kavem Hodge if he is not ready yet. He has done well so far at youth level yes but you all seem to get on this home boy thing and forget all things else. It appears that it does not matter if you (cricket authority in Dominica) know in all fairness someone is not deserving or ready. It is a worrying thing to see this wide spread attitude. Yes LIAM should be let go but is it automatic that he be replaced by Kavem?

I do hope for Kavem’s sake and his survival beyond regional cricket which he will play if he does not fall away that he is indeed ready and he does not have this entitlement attitude that your attitude helps to foster.

Look at Shane Shillingford the man is a pelter no doubt. I mean the blindest man can see that but when he was being promoted by Dominicans not a mention of this problem, not one attempt to help him address it in any meaningful way so that he would have good chance beyond regional cricket….

You sound like someone in the know what happened to Mervin Mathew? He was good prospect. I can’t remember the other guy’s name, the wicket keeper there, Something Phillip, what happened to him? There was also another promising wicket keeper I think in the police force what happened to him? Saw him at Stanford first 20/20?

What happened to these guys so that we can learn from to help support Kavem so he can continue to prepare and stay focused as he transitions from under 19 cricket to senior regional and internationals? Plenty is wrong in Dominica cricket because not one Dominican player who has made it out of the regional level has been able to make it and stay on the West Indies team through sheer performance. That is post Irving SHillingford. This is the discussion we need to be having in my humble view.

i couldnt agree more but do u know that kavem wasnt selected to the windwards team,if his name was sebastien or shillingford he would be the captain or if he was from roseau he wud be selected..just cant understand whats going on at all..did we noticed who lockhart sebastien put as captain, his son who dont deserve a pick in the team.thats cruel to do the young man hodge something like that..so are u telling me its lockhart sebastien team alone and no one else have a say…wheres nantan and others.its time for sebastien to leave let our cricket elevate..plzzzzz someone take a stand

Please do not type in caps.

Secondly, Guyana will be playing one game against Leewards and another against Windward.

Shane taking wicket but his bowling problem has not been fixed or can’t be fixed whether we want to admit it or not.

I agree, LIAM has not place on the Windward Team – he has expired.

Did the money for his citizenship reach the treasury? Of course not, he did not have to pay. Just wanted to highlight that our leadership can also “gift” citizenships, free of charge and one wonders how many of those have been dispensed as bargaining chips or “kados” in return for favours?

We welcome our Guyanese brethren to Dominica as the Windsor Park will technically become Guyana’s ‘home’ ground for their first two cricket matches in the Caribbean 2012 Regional 4 day tournament since these two games against the Leeward and Windward Islands were originally scheduled to be played in Guyana.

Dominicans, once again turn out in your numbers to support the fantastic game of cricket!!

The sad part of this story is that, the people of Guyana will not be able to enjoy some real good fun in their home country, seeing their sons of the soil play the game, but on the other hand, it is a welcome event for us in Dominica, which will certainly bring some income for Dominica. Hotel occupancies, Guest Houses, vendors, event organizers, die hard dominican fans will all benefit from those few days of fun in the sun at our Stadium.
