Five Bag Football Team from Gutter Village is the champion of the Roseau Improvement Committee’s (RIC) Small Goal Football Tournament.
The tournament, which took place at the River Street Bus Stop, was part of the RIC‘s father’s day celebration.
Twenty teams participated in the event.
“The program of activities was well received and brought together fathers, sons and the entire family by extension for some well-deserved fun and family building,” a release from the Committee stated.
In a prize giving ceremony held at the PrevoCinemall on Tuesday, Co-Patron of the Roseau Improvement Committee (RIC), Joseph Isaac described the initiative as “major” and “well contested”.
“It was a well contested competition and it was placed in two legs,” Isaac explained. “The first leg involved the elimination in a knock out approach followed by a second round with the finals. Out of this tournament we had the junior winning team which were the Young Goners of Goodwill. In the senior category the second place was Outer Stars of Goodwill and the winner was Five Bag of Gutter Village.”
He noted that most of the teams who participated were from the Roseau Central itself.
The winner received a football trophy and the other teams who reached the finals received a small contribution for the development of their team.
The RIC has been in existence for over 25 years and covers Roseau south, north, valley and central.
Congratulations to the football team also to the other teams who took part in the RIC. Big thanks to the organizing team for this great opportunity for the youth to showcase their football skills. However, i dislike the name of the winning team. We all know what the name ‘Five Bag” stands for ( well i know, i grow up gutter). Hon. Norris Prevost, MP, i urge you to have the team change their name. It is not good for team building and certainly not a name that the youth should carry their team by. It is poor and utterly distasteful. The parents of the kids should set an example.
We parents always take things for granted and when shit hits the ceiling we always asked why..why..why. Motivation starts at home. encouragement starts with you.
Norris Prevost I am not voting for your party but you are a Bless Man..If i was voting Roseau I would vote you…You always was somebody that checking us young people in Roseau..since in time of your Cinema..Keep Up the Good Work it is always Appreciated.
Congratulations to these up and coming football stars of Roseau. Congratulations also to all the participants in the RIC Tournament, players, referees and Organizers. Special congratulations to the UWP Youth group of Roseau, for the outstanding role you played in makng the entire program the sucess that it was.
