JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – An amazing batting display by West Indies saw them break several records as they beat South Africa by four wickets to win the second T20 International at the Wanderers, on Sunday evening.
The Windies were set 232 for victory after the Proteas posted 231-7 off their 20 overs.
The visitors reached the target with four balls to spare – the highest run chase in T20 cricket.
The win gave the Windies an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series – following their victory by four wickets in Cape Town last Friday night.
Chris Gayle was again unstoppable as he blasted 90 from just 41 balls – including nine fours and seven sixes – to win his second Man of the Match award in a row.
The powerful left-hander added 152 for the second wicket with Marlon Samuels – the highest partnership in this format. Samuels made a stroke-filled 60 off 39 balls to maintain his good batting form.
At the end skipper Darren Sammy hit 20 off seven balls, including a massive six which sealed the deal.
Wen i saw the score,i knew this team could chase it . They prove that they can do it
Seems as though West Indies are only good at “hit-out cricket”–unlike Test matches.
When I heard the score, as I misjudged the time, I thought that was a massive run chase and said that was impossible for the WI to chase those runs as that was the most runs posted by any T20’s team, with almost 12 runs an over. When I saw WI won the match, I said “cricket is a game of chances” Congrats to the guys, their strength is in 20-20’s . They are unable to hold their own in the test matches
not pure chance, there were some quality shots, and yes strength of the players helped.
We hoping to see this kind of performance from Gayle in Windsor Park Roseau, we haven’t experienced these performance from Gayle in our Park, He really would like to give us these kind of performance.
Hats off to the WI team on a great victory!
