Joyful expectation filled the air in Dominica, when D.N.O broke the news that Shane Shillingford had been included in the West Indies squad for the second test in Trinidad. The immediate question however and one that still lingers is, will he be included in the starting eleven?
Shane overcame the challenge of being banned from bowling by the ICC pending remedial work. With the help of the WICB, DCA, Thomas Kentish and others he was able to demonstrate sufficient improvement in his bowling technique. This led to his inclusion on the test squad to Bangladesh and India.
Although on the tour he had to sit out all the games including the final test in India, in which he was scheduled to play but for illness, the world had to wait to see the effort by this determined Dominican.
It was during the Caribbean T20 in January 2012 that the International cricketing public saw Shane for first time and he looked good. He bowled tidily but it was in the four day version of the WICB regional tournament that it became evident that the young man from Dublanc was back.
He picked up 38 wickets in five games including a personal best of 14 wickets against finalist Barbados.
His journey back was never going to be easy, and indeed, it became quite challenging as a new spin option in Sunil Narine broke unto the scene. It meant that Shane would have to battle the ICC emerging Cricketer of 2011 Bishoo and the new spin phenomenon Narine. Not one to be deterred, he marched to the beat of a heart filled with confident determination.
After probably the best season of his career, the selectors gave him the nod! Shane is back and he is bowling tighter and better than before!
Has he done enough to convince his skipper? With Narine gone, will Shane be given a chance to prove that he is indeed a world class contender? Will the team’s management look beyond the younger Bishoo? Will we get a chance to see him in Dominica?
Though there may be lots of questions, there’s a justifiable feeling that it won’t be his bowling that determines if he plays in Dominica. His batting might be the thing that gives him the best chance to separate himself from a field of excellent spin options.
he has proved already ..taken 4 wickets including ponting clarke hussy..wow
No offspinner from the West Indies and Dominica has yet to convince like the late “Kaleb Laurent”, ala “Lance Gibbs”, according to Jeff Charles.
go shane go eh, Right!
welcome back to the top level shane, wish you all the best, however you need to get stronger physically.
shane u the best. hard work pays off. go shane go. we all love u in dominica
Shane do your best make us proud……………YOU ARE DOMINICA!!!!!
I am happy and delightful to know he is back..
You made it this is your time.
Thank you Lord! your timing alone Lord is perfect
Ours is just a matter of time.
Go Shane put yr all in one for Dominica.
first wicket today bowl them shaney 1-for0
if he was from barbados, jamaica,t’dad antigua or guyana ,he would be on the squad longtime.
Go get them shane. You have been playing this game for way too long.Give windies the taste of Dominican talent. DA to the world.
Bishoo did not have a particularly good match in Barbados at all. Will the selectors see it as a ‘One Off Thing’?, we will soon find out.
From where i am, i would go for Shane. Think he is way better than Deonarine, and if Deonarine can do it well, Shane can do it better.
People in this world are to unfair,if their backs was’nt against the wall, they would not call u , let no one keep you down SHANE. GIVE IT YOUR BEST SHOT! AND I WISH U GOOD LUCK
Spin a web around the Australians when you get the opportunity to play Shane.
WEST INDIES CANNOT WIN THE TEST IN TRINIDAD WITHOUT SHANNY.BISHOO BOWLS ONLY FOUR GOOD BALLS IN AN OVER, THE AUSTRALIANS KNOW THAT.IF HE PLAYS, LOOK OUT FOR ALOT OF STROKES ON THE BACK FOOT EITHER THROUGH THE COVERS OR MID WICKET.WHAT MAKE NARINE AND SHANNY GREAT IS BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE ABILITY TO DRAG YOU ON THE FRONT FOOT,BISHOO DOESN’T HAVE THE PHYSICAL STRENGTH TO BOWL SIX BALLS WITH AIR RIGHT UP TO THE BATTER. THE MAN IS A LEG SPINNER,WHEN WAS THE LAST GAME BISHOO BOWLED THE GOOGLE.
its simply business people, they included him on the side so this will draw a larger sales in ticket as the next test will be held in
D/A.. im almost certain he will not play in trinidad … and as for being on the 11 in D/A he might be on it depending on how the spinner in Trini perform.
stop being a bloody pessimist and wish the young man good luck. why do you have to be negative???.
look he playing in TRINIDAD!!!!
I want to say good luck to you shane, you have proven your self.If Bishoo can make it you can,in the wicb riginal games you were far better than Bishoo;so if honesty has to prevail you must be favoured before Bishoo. If Narine was avalable then no doubt you or Bishoo would be a no no, but good luck to you.
