The Dominica Squash Racquet Association held its 2nd Annual Summer Squash Camp from August 5-7.

The camp was designed to train junior squash players as well as seniors in the fundamentals of the sport. The camp was facilitated by James Bentick, coach of the St. Vincent team. This year’s camp was made possible by the following sponsors, Auto trade, Fort Hotel, Kubuli, St. Vincent National Olympic Committee, Dominica Olympic committee, Griffon Bank, Krazy Tees and the Zone.

Participants of the camp received certificate of completion and reported that the camp exposed them the basic fundamental of the game. They said that they learnt that physical fitness is of paramount importance. Some of the participants said they saw improvement in the strokes and speed on the court.  According to James Bentick to be a well accomplished squash player requires discipline in mind and body. He stated that the juniors’ posses the skills and talents to be great squash players and he hopes that they will build on the training   received to be better able to compete in the junior OECS squash tournament next year.

Leonard Bedneau, the president of the DSRA who also coaches the juniors, was pleased with the results and hopes to build on the work done by Bentick.  Bentick left here on Sunday to take part in regional squash tournament.
