The Sports Division would like to inform the general public that the continuation of the 2010 Secondary Schools Independence Athletics Championships will take place on Friday 15th October 2010.
The schools participating in this year’s championships are Dominica Grammar School, Goodwill Secondary School, Portsmouth Secondary School, Pierre Charles Secondary School, Isaiah Thomas Secondary School, Castle Bruce Secondary School, North East Comprehensive School, Dominica Community High School, St. Martin’s Secondary School, St. Mary’s Academy, Wesley High School, Nehemiah Comprehensive School, Orion Academy and the Dominica State College.
It must be noted that the incident did not have anything to do with any on-field activity; instead it was a matter of an altercation between two teenage girls and this was brought under control by school authorities.
It was however unfortunate that outside elements made their way into the stadium and sought to reignite and inflate this matter.
The efforts of the police in controlling what seemed to have had the potential to escalate into some thing major is commendable. The Sports Division wishes to assure the public and the schools that all will be done with the assistance of the police to ensure the safety of the participants and the general public.
We are on a drive to utilize sports as an effective vehicle to curb the social ills in our society and in this regard, we will not allow the negative elements in our society to put a damper on the positive attributes of our youths.
Our young people continue to excel in the sport of track and field and we at the Sports Division are committed to providing them with the opportunities to continue to develop.
On the track, Day One could be described as an outstanding one – with three new game records being set. The Games will continue on Friday 15th October with the finals of several heats, which took place on Day One and we look forward to great performances from the students and to more records being set.
what is this Dominica you getting out of hand now
them roseau people there like to much problem always want to fight they just see necs winning they try to weaken them but wi never scared
@NECS student: man there pull up a partner just come and siap the man and run.go easy father do hate ur brother.jelouse!
As expect no report on the success of the students, no reports on the broken records and victorious school, yet the media had a field day after the brawl sad sad sad
I love the “let’s get the job done ” attitude of the Sports Department (I do not like Sports Division). Your action was swift and decisive to continue with the games, thus lessening the tensions and not allowing a minor incident to derail 31 years of achievements. Kudos to the minister and her staff.
twn pple always belie dey betta dan pple especially country pple. well my town pple nobody is betta dan anybody so..and we work hard for wat we achievin rite now so work hard like everybody else for and like N.E.C.S of cus for wat allu wat
and dats it !!!
the country schools are always looked down to. Let me say that we work hard to get to the top.
@page: just so you know result were given out yesterday Thursday by the division from the prilims most of us only became aware from kairi s lunchtime live report
Hmmm, everywhere young people garther is a fight. This must stop one way or the other. Some of the responses clearly shows that some people support these kinds of behavoir. They too are potentential trouble makers in the future. It is sad.
Mr .Shillingford was rong too eh. You cannot bash a school like that, regardless. I am not from N.E.C.S but they did not start the fight. They were innocent!
It’s nice to see that the sports division has spoken. One thing they did not say was which school was breaking those records. Trevor shillingford on the mike saying stuff about the country school but I think is pour jealousy that going on. Tell those town schools to go and train hard. Tell their officers to work hard like mr Dorsette so they can get good result and stop trying to penalize the children. And to this media , u guys are just interested in the negative aspects. I guess ur ratings went up this week. Why did u not also report on the achievements of the students. I kn our mentality is all with the negative
Could someone explain to me why the police officer needed the automatic weapon.
This is just a taste of things to come sad to say but its true, as i always noted on D.N.O if some in Authority only react when the trouble reaches their Door steps and stick their head in the sand and look the other way once the problem does not pertain to them as i always say they the trouble makers will come for others like them in the night but rest assured they will come for the innocent and defenseless in the Day. I hope this unfortunate incident. The facts of which we do not have yet. But please my fellow Dominican we must all come together to eradicate this evil and malcontents elements before we all pay for it in the furture. I hope in the end i am proven wrong for the good of our country man woman, and child take note.
EXPELL THOSE WITH THE WEAPONS FROM SCHOOL. WE NEED TO TAKE HARSH DECISIONS SO AS TO STOP THE VIOLENCE IN DA
i hope D.G.S come out on top as we always do,,,,i so proud to be a past student,,,,,one of my wishes is to have the opportunity to address the students on founders day,,,,,when i used to watch those ‘ol boys’ addressing us,,,,i always wanted to have dat moment
