The Salisbury savannah to receive a sports makeover

Salisbury savannah

Plans are afoot to transform the Salisbury Savannah into a multi-purpose sporting facility in the coming year.

The Salisbury Enhancement Committee Inc. (SEC), says in a press release, that it  recently received “complaints and reports from various sports enthusiasts and teams and saw that some attention needed to be paid to the availability and quality of sporting facilities and programs in the community”.

The multi-purpose facility will be done in phases and will include the construction of a retaining wall, back-filling of the grounds, resurfacing and fencing.

Wash room facilities, a players’ pavilion and spectators’ stand will also be constructed.

The Committee does not as yet have the final figures of the cost of the project but they plan to start their fundraising efforts for the venture by raffling a 32’ flat screen television.

The SEC says it will be seeking assistance for the construction of the facility from the government of Dominica, the private Sector and local and international groups and funding agencies.

According to the SEC, for the people of Salisbury, the Salisbury savannah is a place filled with memories of vibrant cricket rivalries, exciting rounders matches and the recent 2011 Salisbury Reunion.

Congratulation to the people who came up with this idea. I would suggest that we the people of the diaspora should also contribute to this venture. It would have been a good idea to open an account in the credit union so that the disasporas can contribute by sending money throw money gram. It’s the cheaper way to go. We have always been an example to the other village and we should continue.

Bravo, Salisbury!!!! My donation is in the mail.
I’d like to make an appeal to the powers that be, to help us in this endeavour.
Salisbury has never been a community where we sit back and wait for things to happen. Time and time again, we here in Salisbury have taken the initiative, and with or without the help of Governmental institutions, taken steps to enhance the living conditions of those in our community.
May I suggest providing the remaining funds that we might need to complete this project, or at least matching that which we have raised!
We will thank you in advance.
