West Indies captain, Darren Sammy, said his team is ready to do battle with Zimbabwe in the crucial second and final Test set to kick off at Windsor Park Stadium in Roseau on Wednesday
Speaking to the media on the eve of the match, Sammy said the plan is to win, since winning in Dominica will be a momentous occasion. “Our plan is to win and also build on the winning streak we have so far,” he said. “This Test match is very important to us and playing in Dominica is good for us since we have not had a Test victory in Dominica and so we will want to win. The people in Dominica have supported us and achieving our first ever victory here on Dominican soil will indeed be a momentous occasion.”
The Windies captain also stated that the game plan remains the same, playing with three quick’s and the spin of Shane Shillingford, who destroyed Zimbabwe in the first Test in Barbados.
“Our plan remains the same as usual and so far we have had a good team effort and we are looking forward to the same in this Test match,” Sammy said.
He stated that once the team goes out there and executes their game plan, victory is expected.
He added that since he rates all victories as being the same, the opposition does not matter.
“We are playing cricket and the opposition does not matter to us all … what we aim to do is to play good cricket and win. We have lots of talent in the Caribbean right now in the fast bowling department and in the batting, we have the likes of Sarwan, Kirk Edwards, Devon Smith and others. It’s tough competition but that’s the way it is,” he stated.
As captain Sammy said he has his role to play and once that is done, it benefits the entire team. “I am happy, it’s not about me, it’s about the team and so I don’t look for self praise,” he said.
Meantime, pitch curator Richard Letang says the wicket is “good for bowlers and batters and have something in it for all once they put the required effort and dedication.”
I read with interest the view of the manager Shane Shillingford of the West indies team suggesting that we should disregard the mepuis tendered by Fazeer in his writings of Shane. However, while turning the other cheek is a sound biblical principle, most offenders do no even notice the turned cheek to the extent that they commit the same offence over and over against that same victim. It is therefore incumbent on the victim speak out of his hurt; and if the offender has any grace, he will apologise profusely for having “inadvertently” caused hurt. Over to you, Mr Fazeer!!
I wonder how Trinis would have reacted.
