WICB sources confirm Dominica will host Windies, Australia Test

Members of the Windies team

Sources close to the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) have confirmed that Dominica will host the third Test of the series West Indies versus Australia, which was scheduled to have been held in Guyana.

Disagreement in cricketing circles in Guyana forced the WICB to seek an alternate venue for the April 23 fixture.

WICB officials said the change had become necessary because of an unresolved impasse between the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and an interim management committee over the governance of the affairs of cricket in that country.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced at a public meeting of his Dominica Labour Party at La Plaine at the weekend that Dominica had been selected as that alternate venue.

However cricket officials here were cautious in their response to that announcement, saying that they had not had any confirmation about that at the time from the West Indies Cricket Board.

The decision to allow Dominica to host that test has landed one Antiguan-based cricketing official in hot water.
Dominican Gregory Shillingford who heads the Leeward Islands Cricket Association has been accused of helping Dominica’s case, and not properly representing the interests of Leeward Islands cricket.

One former Antiguan national cricketer called for his resignation and for Shillingford to be sent home to Dominica.

The view was also supported by former West Indies pacer Kenneth Bejamin.

According to DNO’s post at 11.19 a.m. today, officials of the DCA were cautious in their response in confirming the announcement. However, at the weekend, Skerritt announced that Dominica was selected as the alternative venue for the test match Australia vs. West Indies.

Shouldn’t that announcemnet be made first by the DCA, after all road is cleared? then Skerritt follow after DCA’s confirmation? Isn’t there certain protocols and Order to be followed here? What about the independence of the DCA in those matters? Why wasn’t the DCA allowed to confirm and make that statement?

Calypso PRESSURE that cause that, nuh? Is that saying true? A drowning man catches any straw? Great for DA, nontheless. We are passionate about our cricket.

Whether the PM made the announcement early to put extra pressure on WICBC officials or because he already knew their decision,
    We can all agree :
    Things are Looking UP!

of the nine test playing nations (West indies plus eight) we have already welcomed three (bangladesh, South Africa and India)and this year we hope to welcome Australia and New Zealand. This is five in three years. After this, only England, Sri Lanka and Pakistan remain. In one word – OUTSTANDING!
REMEMBER: when the stadium was being built, at the start we were told that the Chinese were fooling us; all they wanted to build was a military base. As the project continued, that changed to: we would never get a first class game much less for a one day or a test.
Lo and behold, the reviews from the nations who have played have been good, the crowd – great.
I need to know the dates so I can book my leave accordingly, win, lose or draw.
look out for me on tv.

The Prime Minister did not have a direct influence, but our president Emmanuel Nanthan did.
i heard him on marpin news say that dominica volunteered to host the guyana regional games, which strengthened their case to host the test match.
i also heard nanthan say that the board had agreed and that the only hurdle at the time was getting the australian board to agree and the players association.
which he said was not going to be a problem.

Jokers while the PM may not have had a direct influence in the decision his government did build a world class cricket stadium to be able to be in a position as recipients in times like these. If we only had Winsor Park we would never be considered. So people check you facts before commenting! With so many stadiums in the islands now everyone is competing. DA is new on the stage but has shown great support for the game in terms of attendance it is only fitting that we were given consideration!

Here we go; cricket officials here were catious in their response to that announcement but Skeritt (master of all things in Dominica, if not a god of the island), broke the news at his DLP rally in La Plaine, and has since taken it over the airways. I wonder why cricket officials are so cautious about it? Maybe they fraid to say something that the god is not pleased with. I wonder if Mano not part of the officilas that are cautios.
