WICB to offer full support to Shillingford

Dominica's Shane Shillingford

St John’s, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board will offer full support to Shane Shillingford following his bowling action being deemed to be beyond the allowable limit of the International Cricket Council.

“The WICB has received the report on Shane’s action and will consult with experts and formulate a suitable plan of action and hopefully he can continue his international career in the shortest possible time,” WICB CEO Dr. Ernest Hilaire said.

“The WICB and the Team Management Unit remain confident in his ability to perform at the highest level and see this latest development as a challenge which has been placed before him,” Dr. Hilaire added.

“Shane is a tough cricketer who arrived on the international stage via the difficult route after years of toil on the regional circuit, we have no doubt that he will emerge from this test of his character,” Dr. Hilaire said.

Umm people guess what, a certain member of the cricket association in Dominica was scared out of his wits for shane to make the Windies Team. So long as he was playing for the windwards that was fine…..Do u know why he was so scared???? For exactly what just happened.
So give it a break and hope that he can correct the action.

Law 24 Para 3 Definition of fair delivery (the arm) The Laws of Cricket by the MCC It’s beggars belief that the International Cricket Council (ICC) could take punitive measures against one individual because the elbow extension was 17 degrees which was 2 degrees above level of tolerance permitted, yet this same organisation, did not care a damn about Muttiah Muralitharan chucking action the great Indian spinner Bishen Bedi went public to protest about it,yet the worst offender of unfair deliveries Murali was allowed to continue bowling with his suspect action and went on to be the world leading wicket taker.

Wish you all the best Shane as you correct your bowling action. The good thing is that the West Indies won’t be involved in any test cricket until around April/May2011 so you have some time to work on your action.

Can we make comparison to Shane’s action and Muralitharan from Sri Lanka and Botha from South Africa? By jove! Shane is the least ‘chucker’ among the three. The other two are worse by far but allowed to continue their international careers, whereas, Shane is suspended. It is not difficult to see the bias there. WICBC haven’t got the kind of financial influence that the other countries have to bribe ICC officials so our players are victimised and WICBC are unable to fight their corner.

Once Murali was cleared he got his licence to chuck the ball. Can the umpire tell whether his elbow is bent 15 degrees or 17 or 20 degrees?

The fact is, as a big time player, they cut him his slack and allow him free reign to bowl as he pleases. Courtney Walsh chucked a few as well. But who was going to call Walsh?

      When you big, you large.

I feel sorry for Shane and I am not too optimistic that he will ever come back to where he was in International cricket. While he is not the first, but I beleive he is being picked on and the WICB is so weak that they can only stand by and watch our players being given “special ” treatment. There are so many chuckers out there but their respective boards have made it clear that no one must report their players for suspect actions. The cricket world is always looking to drag down anyone they can and when you have no one to talk on your behalf they will attempt to wipe you out. I can equate that to the manner in which the commentators always have a swipe at our elite Umpire Billy Doctrove when he makes a mistake but they always put wool over their eyes when other umpires from the big countries make those mistakes. As a matter of fact I can honestly say the they make many more and worse mistakes that Doctrove and yet we do not hear those negative comments from those bias commentators.
Shane keep your head high. it is not going to be easy to overcome this hurdle but you have to try and hopefully the WICB will have some balls and stand up and support their own.

Much earlier on in Shane’s carrier, after Buckner called him for illegal bowling action, the matter was not taken seriously. How much work did Dominica Cricket Association or the WICB do to help Shane? He needed help, since that time, but Shane was not given the necessary and timely technical assistance. Usually, in fact, I know that such technical matters are overlooked in the islands. Shane plays for Dublanc takes wickets. Shane plays for the National team takes wickets and that is it. Who in the DCA or from the Dublanc team or National coaching team make it their duty to study one’s bowling actions or pay detail to batting techniques with a view to providing the necessary remedial actions especially where players fall short in the bowling, batting, fielding, wicket-keeping departments? Do we have the capacities or abilities or patience to conduct close monitoring of potential players’ techniques? Shane urgently needs help and that help must begin now, must be continuous and structured. Shane seem to be determined to perform at the highest level and that should work for him in the future. With determination and patience one could overcome many hurdles.

Patience…..Shane needed that correction when he was a kid. It is bit late in the game. The positive we can take from this is for the coaches to pay closer attention to the youngsters who are picking up the game to teach them proper bowling techniques.

When a person has a suspect action, it is fairly easy for a bowling coach to pick up on the fact that the arm is straightening at the point of delivery so he can take the remedial action necessary to correct it.

    December 21, 2010

Being Dominican has nothing to do with it. Lets not get paranoid.

He is not the first to go through this, and he wont be the last. Its happened to other bowlers.

What we should be doing is surporting him, showing him that we have faith in his abilities.

Lets hope that he is given all the help and guidance needed. On his return to International cricket, he’ll be even better than before.

    December 21, 2010

Shane please do not listen to negative talks. This is a challenge and we do have to face them sometimes in life to make us tough. Be submissive and learn from those with experience. There is our own Umpire Billy Doctrove. The WICBC says it is going to give you support. Do not let this little testing time deter you. I know you will shine through. Just be patient and do what is necessary so you can bump back in good time. Never leave out your Father in this scenario. Seek ye first the Kingdom of the Father and his righteousness and all will be added on to you in due time.

We love you and we stand behind you.

SHOAIB AKHTA ONCE HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM AND THE CRICKET AUTHORITIES SIMPLY HAD HIM CORRECT HIS ACT, THEN REINSTATED HIM BACK ON THE TEAM.
LET’S HOPE THE WICB WILL DO THE SAME WITH OUR BOY SHANE.

It is real unfortunate that Shane has found himself in that situation but I beleive that all is not lost.
What the authorities have to do urgrntly is to get a team of persons to work with Shane so he can get back on track as early as possible.I would suggest that Dominican Elite Panel Umpire Billy Doctrove with his vast experience and knowledge on the International scene be given a leading role in that team so he can advise Shane as to what he has to do to overcome his problem.Dominicans must stand and support Shane during those difficult times.
