Roseau, Dominica – The stage is set for the first Test match on the island of Dominica. West Indies captain Darren Sammy said his team is excited by the prospect as they face India in the Third and final Digicel Test at Windsor Park – the newest Test venue on the world stage.
First ball is 10 am.
The Windies had a full training session on Tuesday morning and Sammy outlined the team’s plans for the match. This is a must-win if they are to have a share in the series, as they trail India 0-1 – following the visitors’ 63-run win in the First Digicel Test at Sabina Park, Jamaica and the drawn contest at Kensington Oval in Barbados.
“We need to win. We will look at all our options and come up with the combinations to go out and fight to win the Test match. It will be an all out effort from everyone in the team… a total team effort. From one to 11, everyone has to do the job for the team.
“Looking at the pitch, you can see there is some moisture and that should help the faster bowlers early on. Normally from playing here, it turns later on in the match, so both the pacers and spinners can expect some help,” Sammy said.
He continued, “I’m excited, the whole team is excited. Dominica is like a home away from home for me. I played here quite a few times for St Lucia as well as the Windward Islands and I always get a lot of support here from the lovely people of this country. They love cricket and I know they will give us their full backing.”
The windies skipper added, “I know the people will come and ‘lively up’ the place. This is the first Test match for the country and it promises to be a wonderful occasion as the cricket played here will be seen worldwide and it will be great exposure for the nation as well. It would be great to come out on the winning side at the end of the Test.”
In both matches so far West Indies bowlers have been the star performers for the team. Sammy was again full of praise for opener pair Ravi Rampaul and Fidel Edwards.
“It is very good to see the way Fidel has made a comeback. He got eight in the last match and in his career he has taken nine five-fors, so he’s a wicket-taker and he has fitted in very well,” Sammy said.
He added: “Ravi has done well for us all season and he’s full of confidence. He has been the go-to man with the new ball and has always given us the early wickets to set the opposition back. He’s a very good team player and I’m sure he will get more success here.”

The facility is lovely…the world is in for a treat. I am proud of my country (Dominica), and my team (Windies). Go windies…big up Dominica
Best Wishes

Same here as I will also be rushing home from work in London, to watch on Sky Sports!
So wish I was there right now but will be there in spirit!

Simply, good luck. I will not be present in body but in spirit. Dominicans do love cricket and I am certain that they will come out in full force to support you.
Those of you who are old enough will remember the words of the song: “Cricket lovely cricket…”
Hold on to cricket the West Indies. Defend your innings the West Indies until that final ball is bowled. We rallying full time.
Tommorrow you gonna see a heap of Domini in cans running into the stadium to watch West Indies crap. Other more develop countries ban West Indies with partly empty stadiums. Moi ki plee sort. Ou ka weu sa sort la Demme’ce Diex lay. RUBBBBBBBBISSHHHHHHH!
please stop the nonsense that you are speaking. some people are too negative. every team needs support and as west indians we shiould support the team. if tou don’t want to go please dont cause no one is forcing you. if you dont have nothing to say please SHUT UP!!!
and that’s i assume must be coming from one of our Hatian friends.
And what is wrong with that?! Your Haitians friends were the first Black country to attain independence from European colonisation.
I suggest you show a little respect and ’emancipate yourself from mental slavery’ in the process.
Your cranium is the size of the grain of sand! This about more than West Indies and cricket. This is a chance to market Dominica! Show off the natural beauty INCLUDING THE PEOPLE.
What you fail to recognize is that the other countries like Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad who don’t turn out to support the cricket they have played their part in the past, in turns of mammoth crowd turn outs. We need this more than they do. So relax yourself and support DA and WI
I can remember those days when West Indies was on top, whipping the breath out of their opponents, the stadiums in England, Austrailia, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka etc. used to be filled to the brim despite the knowledge that the West Indies were going to win. Why should we be any different?
I am westindian always and will support you guys. Come onnn! let’s fight to the very end. knock the batsmen on the head with a bat a few times before they leave the locker-room. get them angry; get them crazy or something. I know that it’s going to be a tough fight, but you guys can do it.
Let good weather prevail, and give D/A something to celebrate.
Best of luck WI.
We only hope for you all to give off your best in representing the West Indies. It is interesting though that about a decade ago, Dominica could not even get a player on the West Indies team and now we are actually hosting a test match! What a transformation!!
Now my fellow Dominicans, we saw the empty stands that observed the other two test, Let us prove to the West Indies board that hosting a Test match in Dominica at least every other home series will make sense. Let us talk with the numbers who attend the grounds. It is a small price to pay for extensive tourism promotion. Let the cameras role over our rivers, Waterfalls, beaches, Cabrits, Trails and those scenic venues that will invite the tourist dollar. Yes we can do it!! So come on Dominicans, let us put country first. Amidst pleasures and palaces there is no place like home…. a charm from the skies seems to hallow us there, be it ever so gentle, there is no place like home!!! So let we do it, Let we do it, roots and culture, Rastafari. Dominica ah foo ah we that seen!!!!!
COngrats to Dominica on Hosting the First Testt Match!!!
Good Luck West Indies
Not expecting too many comments on here its non sex related. And its something positive going on in the country!!! God help us!!
same here but where are all our suporters
Hear, hear and to agree with you and another ‘Ras B’, I couldn’t have said it any better than you both articulated and the point was made superbly well.
Yes Dominicans, put aside all of your differences, political or religious wise, worries, and go out in droves to show the rest of the other islands how things are done and prove to the West Indies Management that we truely belong in the schedules for all international cricket tournaments, be that ODs, 20/20, (Club/World), Test series, etc, etc.
Show our visitors love and our genuine friendliness which comes to us effortlessly and just enjoy!
One Love DA & I miss you…..wish I was home!
hmmmm.. Mr. Sammy.. flattery will get u everywhere… Dominicans will come out n give full support, so y’all better doh mess up in DA eh..
PLAY WITH CONVICTION AND CONFIDENCE THROUGHOUT THE MATCH AND WEST INDIES WILL BE VICTORIOUS!!
