The West Indies Head Coach, Ottis Gibson, said he is delighted with the bowling group for the upcoming Windies/Zimbabwe Test which kicks off at the Windsor Park on Wednesday.
However, he urged the batsmen to deliver during the match.
“Great job by the team!” Gibson said of the Windies win over the visiting team in Barbados last week. “This win gives us a great deal of satisfaction. It was only three days, but it was three tough days of Test cricket. To come out on top is what we wanted. I don’t think everything went the way we wanted it to, but at the same time to win is a really good feeling. A win in international cricket is always a very good thing for any team, no matter who you are playing against. We will take this win and move on full of confidence.”
Gibson said the West Indies’ spin department is strong while the fast bowling stock is ‘very good.’ “The spin department [in West Indies] right now is strong. We now have four or five quality spinners to choose from. The fast bowling stock is also looking very good and we have a whole host of guys who can do the job now. There is competition for places and that’s a good sign for us going forward. Over the next three years we hope that we can build on this and make a case for breaking into the top five in Test cricket,” he remarked.
West Indies bowled out Zimbawe for 211 and 109 in the first Test. Off-spinner Shane Shillingford was brilliant on his return to the team with nine wickets in the matches – including career-best 6-49 in the second innings to earn the Man-of-the-Match award.
Both teams arrived in Dominica on Sunday and according to Windies Captain, Darren Sammy, the island is a place the team loves to play. “Dominica is a place we love to come and play, I think I can safely say that’s the place West Indies gets the most support whether it be Sunday, Monday or Friday, the people of Dominica come out and support the cricket,” he told reporters at the Melville Hall Airport.
He went on to say that he hopes the upcoming Test will give Dominicans something to to party about. “Although we love playing here we’ve not managed to get a victory here but hopefully this Test match could give the Dominicans something to party about,” he noted.

The last pic of the lil boy smiling is nice! Pure love! The first pic should be an ad for Loubiere Spring Water? Have we giveen any thought for our water to be the water of choice for WI cricket? Contact WICB and float the idea around for travel regionally and internationally. A small price for recognition
