Windies out after 10-wicket loss to Pakistan

DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) – Mohammad Hafeez scored an unbeaten 61 and took two wickets as Pakistan secured a World Cup semi-final spot with a humbling 10-wicket victory over the West Indies today.

After winning the toss and batting, the West Indies were skittled for 112, with only Shivnarine Chanderpaul unbeaten 44 helping the Caribbean team avoid its lowest ever World Cup total.

never had them in the semis, but the captain to me is the weak link, then the senior players in Sawan and Shiv. Now I think Roach, young Bravo,Bishoo,Thomas,Russel all deserves a chance to grow as they have shown that they just need to worked with. Gail can still play but as to the rest they need to go,our coach and management team has to find the formula to develop our young talents to the level of the top 5 teams, otherwise next world cup we are going to see the same results.

well i for sure am not surprised one bit, in the first place, west indies only qualified for the quarters thanks to the lesser teams, imagine if these so called lesser teams were absent as the icc is planning to do in the next world cup west indies would be back in the caribbean long ago so boy no surprise, if i had the authority,my team would not include, gayle, sawan, sammy, miller, and benn

guada man, I agree with you almost completely. The only person I would retain is Gayle because I still feel that he is a very talented and fiercely competitive cricketer who still has a lot to contribute to West Indies and international cricket. As for Sarwan, I really believe that he has peaked and can’t seem to crank up the scoring when the situation requires. I would probably keep him in consideration for the test matches but not the ODI’s or T20 versions. “Sorry” Sammy, “Bad Bwoi” Benn and “Mediocre” Miller probably wouldn’t even come close to making the Kenyan team…..Nuff said!

Sometimes it really feels like the events of life are twisted and unfair. I rememeber as a young passionate cricket fan how the rampant insularity in West Indies regional cricket led to some of the most blatant and obvious cases of rejecting the more deserving “smaller island” cricketers in favor of less deserving “big country” players. Irving Shillingford, Nobert Phillip, and Lockart Sebastien come readily to mind. Now we have a player like Darren Sammy who has been appointed the captaincy with little merited proven performances. When will we get it right? It is no surprise that the West Indies team continue to be a sad bunch of under-achieving losers. Unfortunately, we the long sufferring dedicated fans continue to show our love and support for such a pathetic outfit.

I am in solid agreement with you. In any other cricketing territory, everybody would go. Players, board, management, coaches etc etc. the guys are not serious. we need a total shake-up from top to bottom – period. I expect to hear some resignations. Cannot be business as usual.Ithas to be unusual business. They all needs to go.

This is real painful! Just Pathetic!!. When you were born in the the 1950’s, 60’s or 70’s and became used to West Indies been able to field two competitive sides if they wanted to, your heart aches when you see performances like this. In my days, Norbert Phillip, Grayson Shillingford and even Irvin Shillingford could not hold a place on the West indies first eleven. Any of those guys would be a regular starter on any other team. West Indies was so full of talented players that they were able to ignore some real good players from the smaller islands.

Today, we are the laughing stock of world cricket. What happened? They have set up Sammy to fail, because they knew that he was not ready for the captaincy. Like someone said, based on recent performances, Sammy did not even belong in the final eleven for this game, let alone captain. The same is true for Gail. I do not understand how Gail got into the team in the first place. His bating techniques are so terrible, any mediocre bowler can simply look at him on tape for a few minutes then go bowl to him get him out cheaply.

Overall, the team is lacking everything: confidence, technique, motivation and leadership among other shortcomings. Again, I don’t know what happened to West Indies Cricket. I wish I had some of the answer because right now, the Caribbean is hurting real bad.

First the Captain has to go. Sammy (Sour Loser) is doing nothing for West Indies as a Captain. Chris Gayle tried his best (win or lose he would score runs)

Secondly the team needs a wash out cause they are fool of shit. i personnal don’t support this pathetic team.

      Wiki,

That was not a good question. Have you ever questioned boxing? Why do people put on gloves and continuously slam each other, especially in the head…How about American Football? Why do people put on pads and helmets, then keep slamming head on into each other at full speed?..How about hockey? Ever been to a professional hockey game? If you have a low aptitude for violence, I suggest you stay at home for that one…My point Wiki, is that it is not good to question why people get engaged in any sport. From my experience, sports is good exercise, but it also promotes healthy competition and just makes for good times. Lots of laughter etc. Try it, you might like it..

When they beat up Bangladesh, a lot of people heaped all kinds of praise on them. Beating up a weak team is no reason to celebrate. You celebrate when you beat up somebody your size.

What a pathetic performance! The team showed an incredible lack of a plan when gayle was out. there is need for a complete revamp from the top down…………..but how long has this been going on? I strongly believe that WI need to sit back and take a break from international cricket for a while while an assessment is done on the state of the game.

It is a crying shame that these guys get paid for these type of performances and continue along merrily series after series. A real sorry sight today……………..

They should have dropped sammy in the first place, honestly sammy has not cement his place in w/indies final eleven far less to b captain. West indies cricket needs a lot of work in order to compete out there. That’s just me putting in my 2 cents

Ah! West Indies. What a performance. What have you done to Caribbean Cricketing pride and joy? How you have humiliated our distinguished cricketing ambassadors from yesteryear? Did the team know anything about the two first installments of the world cup (1975 and 1979) when we plundered everyone? It does not seem so. The last two defeats against Englaqnd and India were clear indications that the West Indies team was not deserving of any further participation in the World Cup. To be able to snatch two succesive defetas from the hands of victory says it all about the present crop of West indies cricketers. All Caribbean people must feel the pain and anguish of what is referred to as the best that the Caribbean had to offer at this World Cup. We cannot sink any further. That is the ultimate “bottom line”. We need a revolution in Caribbean/West Indies Cricket.

There is no mor eplace in West Indies Cricket for Chanderpaul, Gayle, Sarwan, Sammy (if he was not captian appointed by the board, he could not and cannot command his pick on a West indies team), Smith etc. Not even Sammy, with all his interest, discipline, he lacks inspiration, technical competence and the ability to consistently motivate the men under his command. can we really beleived that Sammy could measure up with Graeme Smith, Ricky Ponting, Sahid Afridi, Tatenda Taebu among the other inspirational captains? He assumed the position of Captain without any credentials. West Indies cricket which is played at the highest level in the world is very much unlike playing for a village team in St. Lucia or Jamaica for that matter. If what was on show in Bangladesh today is the best the Caribbean can offer, then God help us, Every other country/team has a bright prospect. Is young Bravo our brightest prospect?

I am really hurting. This has to be a very unenviable Cricket World Cup Quarter Finals. Cannot even bat out their full alotment of the overs. Cannot even take a wicket. What a performance.
