Women and girl’s sports festival tomorrow

The Sports Division of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports will on Sunday, March 27, 2011 host the first ever Women’s & Girls’ Sports Festival.

This festival is expected to commence at 2:00 pm at the Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth.

Women and girls sporting groups from around the island are expected to converge on the Benjamin’s Park to participate in football, cricket, rounders, basketball, volleyball and netball.

Trophies will be presented to the winners of the individual sporting disciplines and also to the MVP of the final match of each sporting discipline.

This first festival is one of the Division’s strategies to encourage greater participation by our Dominican women in physical activity since this is an important tool in combating Chronic Non Communicable Diseases.

It is also hoped that this event will create a greater interest in sport in our present and future mothers and this will lead to increased support for youth participation in sport.

The Division looks forward to the active participation of as many Dominican women in this fun-filled activity.

Great Initiative which I hope can grow as the years go by and be fully supported by the Government and by the Private Sector.
