“Words cannot begin to express the pain in my heart for my dear friend and brother. And I pray against the spirit of death, especially among our young people.” Those were the words of Parliamentary Representative for the St Joseph Constituency, Darron Lloyd following a motorcycle collision that claimed the life of Jameson Defoe of the Community of St Joseph.
He said the community of St Joseph remains appalled by the tragic and untimely passing of Defoe also known as ‘Fruity’.
“We have lost a truly exceptional individual. We have lost a friend, a father, a community and sports activist, and very importantly, a son of St Joseph,” Lloyd stated.
He continued, “We continue to mourn and sympathize with his mother and all of his siblings…his untimely passing has left a huge void in the St Joseph community, especially among his close friends.”
Lloyd extended sincere condolences to the family and friends of Jameson Defoe.
Furthermore, he said, the loss of life especially of a young person is one life too many.
“We have also tragically lost Kurvon Wade of Fond Cole in the same motorcycle accident,” he noted. “To Kurvon’s family and friends I express my deepest condolences.”
Lloyd went on to state that this is a devastating loss for all who knew and loved Defoe and it leaves a void that can never be filled.
He also wishes a speedy recovery to Flint Harry of Salisbury, the third party who was involved in the accident.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with you and we hope for your smooth and swift healing,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lloyd stated that this tragic event underscores the urgent need for everyone to exercise greater caution on the roads.
“Motorcycle accidents in particular claim far too many lives that could otherwise be saved through careful and responsible driving,” Lloyd stated. “ Every life lost to such preventable incidents is a profound tragedy that affects us all.”
As the representative of the St Joseph Constituency, he has committed to being a voice of reason and action.
“I will use my capacity and advocate for more robust licensing policies to be implemented, particularly for motorcyclists,” he noted.
He believes it is important to work together to create a safer environment for all road users.
“This commitment to safety, it’s not just a policy issue, it is a moral imperative to protect the lives of our citizens,” Lloyd indicated. “By doing so we honour the memory of those we have lost and prevent further tragedies.”
He called on all to take a moment to reflect on the importance of road safety and commit to being more vigilant, responsible, and caring drivers.
“Together we can make a difference and save lives and may we all strive for a safer tomorrow,” Lloyd said.
