St Lucian convicted of Grievous Bodily Harm

Casey Joseph

Four years after his arrest, Saint Lucian National Casey Joseph has been convicted on two counts of Grievous Bodily Harm against his former lover Tricia Valentine, and her sister Jolisa Dublin, at Grandfond in 2020.

At the Roseau High Court on Tuesday, April 23, before His Lordship Colin Williams, the facts were read before the accused who was represented by Attorney Bernard Pacquette. According to the facts, on April 13, 2020, while at his friend’s residence, Joseph overheard a phone call  which he suspected involved his girlfriend at the time. His suspicions led him to visit Valentine’s home to question her about what he had heard. However, Dublin defended her older sister, claiming that she was the one who had been speaking to Joseph’s friend on the phone, and not Valentine.

The accused then attacked both sisters with a blue-handled knife, inflicting a total of thirteen stab wounds collectively, in the presence of the child Joseph and Valentine shared. Medical reports confirmed that Valentine sustained injuries including a cut to her thorax while Dublin suffered wounds to her back, arms, and neck.

By April 15, Casey Joseph was arrested and charged with two counts of Greivous Bodily Harm and placed on remand at the Dominica State Prison.

A Social Inquiry report is scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, and sentencing will be handed down on Friday, May 19, 2024.

I hate when grown men attack women, especially with weapons. These guys are nothing but cowards.

When the relationship is not working out the best action to take is to walk away. It’s always better to take your loss and go your separate ways in any failing and abusive affair. Resorting to violence is never a good solution.

Instead of being charged with grievous bodily harm it should be upgraded to attempted murder. He went there well prepared armed with a deadly weapon. His sentence should be as such that it acts as a deterrent to all like-minded copycats.

Four (4) long years to prove and sentence a straightforward assault causing grievous bodily harm? What the hell took so long for this conviction and sentencing? Dominica you are not a real nation!
