Through the generosity of donations from the public, St. Vincent de Paul of Dominica assists the less fortunate children with the ‘Happy Program’ initiative. The students under the ‘Happy Program’ are primary and secondary students, including special needs students. Each sponsored student receives $450 yearly, and special needs receive $350 yearly.
President of the National Superior Council of Dominica of St. Vincent de Paul Society is Rosamund Le Bruin.
Speaking at a press conference, Mrs Le Bruin said the “‘Happy Program’ has been in existence for over forty years and the program of the society was designed to assist underprivileged children in Dominica. The maintenance of the children through this program was previously done through sponsorship locally and abroad,” Mrs. Lebruin added.
However, sponsorship has been compromised as a result of Hurricane Maria, followed by COVID-19 pandemic. She noted “The subsequent maintenance of ‘Happy Program’ has become very challenging.”
“Currently we are short of funds to continue to assist students with their stipends and we would like to encourage the public to reach out to St. Vincent de Paul Society and make donations, that will go towards assisting a child in need.”
Individuals who are interested in contributing to the ‘Happy Program’ can visit the St. Vincent de Paul Society outlet on Cross Street in Roseau or contact them at 1 767 277 4057.
Other programs spearheaded by the St. Vincent de Paul Society include the Twinning Program, Adopt a Gran, the Thrift Shop, and House of Hope.
St. Vincent de Paul Society is a nonprofit organization that was established in Dominica on April 24, 1972.
