State funeral for the late Mrs Alix Boyd-Knights, former Speaker of the House of Assembly

Roseau, Dominica-September 15, 2023: The State Funeral for the late Mrs. Alix Boyd- Knights, former Speaker of the House of Assembly and Speaker Emerita will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023 at the St. Gerald’s Cathedral Chapel.

Mrs. Alix Boyd-Knights was the longest-serving Speaker in Dominica’s history, having served from April 2000 to February 2020. She was Chairperson of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association from 2010- 2013.

The Speaker Emerita was an attorney by profession, recognized by the Caribbean Court of Justice Academy for Law as a Pioneering Caribbean Woman Jurist in 2021.

She worked in defense of women’s rights and the protection of children and was a fervent advocate for the strengthening of laws pertaining to domestic violence, child maintenance and the status of children.

Mrs. Knights was the co-author of the book, “Women in Parliament in Dominica,” and was well known for her passion for the culinary arts.

The Lying in State of the body of the late Mrs. Alix Boyd-Knights will take place on Monday, September 25, 2023, at the House of Assembly from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and viewing, at the St. Gerald’s Cathedral Chapel from 2:30pm.

The funeral service for the late Mrs. Alix-Boyd-Knights will commence at 3:00 p.m., followed by interment at the Roseau Roman Catholic Cemetery.

The day of the funeral, Monday, September 25, 2023, shall be declared a Day of National Mourning; and flags shall be flown at half-staff on all public buildings on that day.

The Government of Dominica expresses deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the late Mrs. Alix Boyd-Knights.
