Statement by United Workers Party president, Isaac Baptiste, in response to the resignation of Hon. Lennox Linton as political leader of the UWP

UWP President, Isaac Baptiste

Citizen of Dominica at home and abroad.

On September 30, 2022 the Honourable Lennox Linton resigned as Political Leader of the United Workers Party with immediate effect – a position he has held for the last nine years.

It must be noted that Mr. Linton served at the helm of the organization with the utmost loyalty, integrity, and statesmanship, and has undoubtedly made his mark in the annals of the history of our beloved island nation.

The United Workers Party registers considerable and undying gratitude to have had the opportunity to be led by Mr. Linton. As he continues to serve as Leader of the Opposition and Member for the Marigot Constituency in the Parliament of our nation, we take this opportunity to thank him and his family for the countless sacrifices made during his tenure. On behalf of the executive leadership as well as the general membership, we wish the distinguished gentleman nothing but the best, and will always remain eternally grateful for his leadership. We pray that the blessing of our gracious God would overtake him as he enters this new chapter of his life.

The news of Mr. Linton’s resignation which took many by surprise, bodes the question, “Where do we go from here?” A wise person once said that not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced, and that the only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

This current event has plunged the United Workers Party into a shift which, if executed wisely, will position the party to take maximum advantage of the many opportunities which will be presented in this new era.

This shift is about the future of our country – the need for change which will be beneficial to all, and not a select few.It is about ensuring that our children are safe in our city, villages and hamlets, and that our young people have the opportunities at their disposal to help them become successful, productive citizens. This shift is about access to premium medical care for all regardless of economic status; it is about re-energizing the agricultural sector and breathing life into our abandoned farms. Importantly, it is about charting a new path to jobs and economic opportunities particularly for our youths. On a broader scale, this shift is about regaining our reputation on the world stage and restoring the integrity of citizenship in our beloved nation.

One might argue that the dreams of our citizenry have slipped away. I beg to differ! Where there is life – new life, there is hope. With the right person to successfully lead this party into the next general elections, hope will be revived, and faith renewed. And so, with this in mind, the executive of the UWP will immediately begin the process of securing the next Team to lead this organization. But even with the selection of a new leader, a unification of all who believe in the cause and are willing to put their hands to the plough is required to ensure the change we desire to see in Dominica. All hands must be on deck.

In the words of former US President Barack Obama, “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we have been waiting for. We are the change that we seek”.

Let us all embrace the opportunity offered us. With God on our side, we will not fail.

We now hasten to mend broken pieces, close gaps, rebuild relationships, forge new relationships and heal wounds whilst we feed unity of all Dominicans at home and abroad in our quest to make our country the best place to live, work and enjoy life – a goal of Honourable Lennox Linton.

God bless you all and God bless the Commonwealth of Dominica!

Boy,if you want to know about Linton go to Mahaut and ask the people he worked with for years.Linton has never been in any positive thing in Mahaut. Not cricket, not dominoes, not football, not rounders. So Leblanc can run his mouth.Ronald Isidore was Linton lawn tennis partner in Belfast. We all know when Isidore decided to run for the leadership of UWP.They( UWP) turned around and backstabbed him.The same thing they did to crooked Timothy.

DNO why do you continue to publish this rubbish by this poster Lin Clown? I understand its free press and each and every one has an opinion. But this guy does not contribute anything but negative to this platform. All he does is attack people’s personally and their families. He does not contribute anything to the collective debate on any issue. He makes DNO feels like a rum shop- a Kabarway’
If you ask me, he makes DNO nothing but a Ghetto, gossip and maypri’ joint. I am not sure if this is the reptation you want for your business Sir with all due respect.

ADMIN: If you can believe it we tend to remove the most offensive comments and allow the ones that honour Dominica’s laws and DNO’s comment policy.

As we see it, free speech only works in practice if you allow for all views especially those you do not agree with.

Anything else is just a pretense that will ultimately lead to tyranny.

I think the people of Dominica continue to fail the country in all aspect.
It’s interesting that Lennox only server for 9 years yet the last 5 of those years’ persons for both political parties and ever diasporas felt Linton wasn’t the right person to lead the country, yet they are very content to remain with this incompetent individual who have taken our beautiful island to its lowest.

Linton was never the reason why Dominican doesn’t want change, instead they are too afraid, selfish and are happy to keep Skerrett in power because they don’t want to be free form bondage but is scared to accept change.
No matter which individual that UWP selects it will be the same conversation form the people. Reason is because our people lack courage and don’t know how to stand in unity to fight the greater cause of liberation.
I promise, DLP will be in powers for another 20 years

Ugly Lenny has no place in the annals of history. He was very destructive, abusive, ugly, and a boom boom clat. No student in the future will see Lennox’s name in our West Indian history books. Isaac, take a hike with Telemakak.

Agreed with you for the first time. This guy is a backstabbing dinosaur. Time for him to ride off into the sunset and have a deserving breather from the daily digits of politics.

Flattery is a lie covered in a bed of flowery words.

Mr. Isaac Baptiste, your flowery words about Mr. Linton are incongruous to your backstabbing action.

The hope of your ‘crab-in-a-barrel’ political party of defeating the party of the Butcher of Roseau is now hopelessly improbable. That ship has sailed after your recent foolish actions of brazen treachery.

Only the most diehard operatives will continue to lend support to your party of CROOKS .

“the need for change which will be beneficial to all, and not a select few”–

Mr. Baptiste, if you and your UWP are going to continue with that “logo” above, you better be prepared for another resignation from the upcoming Party Leader, if there is one coming at all.

Dominica has been in the “mode” of change from the first 5-year reign of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit with his governing body, which you and your Party have disturbing for as long as he has been working towards those changes.

So it is not you and your party that “God has sided with”, it is the the Labor Party, authorized by PM Skerrit, through the voice of the Majority of Dominicans, who have chosen Him to rule over the works of the country, to bring on those changes, hence there will be no failure.

There is good times and bad times in the countries all over the World. A strong-willed leader will remain in the fight for the victory, not resign from his post of Leadership.

I am not comparing MR LINTON to a God, but when Christ came, he was treated so badly and who was he, the savior? Dominica made a great error by not allowing this man a chance to rule the country!

@jazz53, your first sentence is fallible, as you continue with the “but when Christ came. Whom do you think Christ is, and what human being invited Him to the World? That was His choice, because of His Love for you and me.

So when you compare Lennox Linton, with the sufferings of Christ Jesus and His Life on Earth, you have done nothing less than spoken a great blasphemy.

Christ came to the World to give His Life, that you might have yours spiritually.

He did not have to go through the sufferings which He encountered, but that was Mission on Earth, to show the World that He could conquer spiritual death.

The Words said: “He gave up the Spirit”, the only way He could have suffered physical death, but He took it back 3 days later. Today, we all who understand and believe can have this spiritual Life in us.

How can you compare that kind of weakness and failure of Lennox Linton, with what Christ Jesus did for you, when He walked the Earth?

That’s my thinking also. The UWP has done themselves irreparable harm using undemocratic means to force Mr. Linton out of the leadership position. They could not do so in a fair and just manner because of the overwhelming support of the party supporters.

The UWP is right now like a car with a flat tire. They can’t go or not going anywhere.
