STATEMENT: Dominica Freedom Party message of solidarity to the workers and trade unions of the Commonwealth of Dominica on the occasion of Labour Day 2025

On this important day of reflection, celebration, and recommitment, the Dominica Freedom Party extends heartfelt solidarity to all workers and to the leadership of the trade unions in the Commonwealth of Dominica on the occasion of Labour Day 2025.

Labour Day stands as a powerful reminder of the immeasurable contribution that the working people of Dominica have made, and continue to make to our nation’s growth, resilience, and dignity. From the fields to the classrooms, from the hospitals to the construction sites, from agriculture to the financial services and across every sector, Dominican workers are the backbone of our national development.

The Dominica Freedom Party honours the legacy of trade unionists and labour leaders, past and present, who, through courage and sacrifice, secured hard-won rights, fairer working conditions, and a voice for the voiceless. We recall with pride our Party’s historic solidarity with the labour movement and affirm our unwavering support for the cause of labour.

This year’s observance comes at a time of continued global uncertainty, economic pressure, and social transformation. It is in such moments that unity, advocacy, and progressive policies are most needed. We, therefore, reaffirm our commitment to policies that respect and enhance workers’ rights, support decent wages and safe workplaces, and strengthen the tripartite dialogue among government, employers, and trade unions.

The Dominica Freedom Party welcomes the news of the readiness to form a trade union congress in July of this year. An initiative we support whole-heartedly.

PEOPLE BEFORE POWER*PEOPLE BEFORE POLITICS*PEOPLE BEFORE PRIVILEDGE AND THINGS

To the trade union leaders, members, and every Dominican worker: we salute your contribution and stand with you in the ongoing struggle for economic justice, social protection, and national dignity.

Happy Labour Day, Forward in Unity and Strength

    Great job DFP.

We need you back in Government.

The truth must be told and the truth is DFP was the Government we ever had in Dominica.
A strong DFP is much needed now!

Someone told me that the dead speak if you call them. Now I know it’s true.

Let’s stop the tomfoolery. The Freedom Party is nothing more than a cadaver. The few persons who are attempting to resurrect this corpse of a party are playing Jesus.

For years they were to have a convention. It was postponed for some frivolous reasons and has not been mentioned ever since. The principal reason is that they CANNOT even muster up six (6) serious candidates for any pending election.

These remaining hanger-ons should put their efforts in advocacy and activism for more worthy causes like good governance, upholding the rule of law, proper electoral reforms, better wages and salaries, proper healthcare, new road network, revitalization of the agricultural sector, etcetera.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 7 Thumb down 4
