The Dominica Hospitals Authority acknowledges the heightened public interest surrounding the recent passing of one of our nurses, who was both a valued member of our team and a patient of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital. We take this opportunity to extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, as well as to our staff and colleagues of the deceased nurse. It is indeed a difficult time for everyone and our prayers and best wishes are with all those who have been impacted in any way.
On Saturday, April 20th, 2024, the Honourable Minister for Health, Wellness and Social Services and Senior Management of the Hospital were present at the hospital to support our team members, the bereaved family, and other associates of our late colleague.
We acknowledge the numerous comments and concerns raised in the public domain and wish to make it fundamentally clear that many of the comments provide an inaccurate account of the events. Notwithstanding, the Board of Directors of the Dominica Hospitals Authority will appoint an external team of professionals to immediately conduct a thorough and impartial fact-finding review of the circumstances surrounding the nurse’s care at our facility.
We take all reports, whether official or unofficial, seriously and remain committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in all matters concerning the functions and operations of the Hospital.
Our priority is to uphold the highest standards of care and integrity within our hospitals.
A relative of mine went in there physically strong without complaining of any pain whatsoever but for some minor observations and this relative of mine didn’t last a week. My relative was discharged within days in serous pain ; such pain he/she had never complained about in the past. Then, within days of my relative being discharged from this slaughter house which is called a “hospital” we had to bury this wonderful relative of mine. This Dominica friendship slaughter house needs to be demolished flat to the ground and no one would miss it. Otherwise, it needs to be sued heavily for fo so many unnecessary deaths and pain caused to families like mine. And a bulldozer needs to take it down.
Q95 and the media whore must stop using people death to play politics.Since UWP lost the election this political tribalism has become a disease.The United Workers Party has injected a blue destructive virus into the police force,the nursing service,the fire service and the teaching service.The your government and the do nothing syndrome is causeing the death of the citizens.
If only Dominica was a real country or, if only Dominicans could talk
They need to do the same into Josaphat Julie Serrant’s death too. After he had a stroke caused by his next of kin as they say and no medical attention until [it is alleged] the doctor was doing his rounds 8 hours later. That hospital and all its staff is a death trap.
Sorry but you are not holding that highest standard of care, too many deaths in this hospital. when the ministers and their love ones are sick they seek medical care elsewhere. If this hospital was fit for purpose they would remain here. That system and government is so useless, Only God can save this country from the government that’s bent on destroying it.
For eons, the populace has been expressing their disapproval of the dismal services they receive at the premier hospital. In fact, most have posited that healthcare in Dominica is unhealthy, uncaring, and that the system is horribly broken.
Despite the consistent and frequent dubious reviews from patients and their relatives about the deplorable state of affairs with the healthcare system, the government ministers and their hangers-on adamantly insist that healthcare in Dominica is unsurpassed. Nothing is further from the truth.
Local doctors are preferable to foreign medical practitioners. The language is problematic. Nurses are overworked and underpaid. More human resources and better pay are essential. Shortages of equipment and medicines need to be rectified. These are just a few shortcomings.
A hospital may be a place of illness, but it’s also a place of healing, hope and humanity. Is the Dominica hospital such a place? You be the judge.
Too many inexperienced young doctors just concerned about their title than the well being of their patients.
@Neal
I endorse that. As a result patients lives are constantly at risk, even for simple procedures.
