STATEMENT: UWP calls for reinstatement of a birth certificate and photo ID in confirmation process

1. The United Workers Party – Team Dominica calls upon the Electoral Commission to immediately withdraw, reverse or revoke SRO 39 in favour of reinstating the provisions contained in SRO 27 of 2025, authorizing the use of a birth certificate along with a photo ID, for use in the confirmation of electors’ process.

2. We make this urgent call to the Commission, given the thousands of potential voters in Dominica who either do not have the IDs required under SRO 39 or will have difficulty obtaining those IDs. The Commission’s lapse of judgment and good sense in this matter risks the disenfranchisement of those voters who may have their names removed from the voters list.

3. We also wish to draw to the attention of the Commission the severe hardship imposed on people wishing to confirm where there are no confirmation centres in their village. This is true for villages like Morne Prosper, San Sauveur and Warner. In addition, constituencies like the Roseau North Constituency, the largest in Dominica, has only two centres,
which means that entire communities will have to go out of their way and at some cost, in order to apply for confirmation.

4. It is evident that the confirmation process is an onerous one for many voters and every effort must be made by the Commission to resolve this issue at the earliest possible time. To remedy this situation, we are requesting that enrollment officers are allowed to rotate throughout the constituencies on different days over the period of confirmation so that they can accommodate those who wish to confirm at minimum cost to them.

5. Finally, we call upon the Electoral Commission to immediately restart registration of new voters consistent with Article 17 (1) of the Registration of Electors Act 2025, which calls for continuous registration of new voters.

6. We are of the view that failure by the Commission to address these urgent concerns will prove damaging to the election process here in Dominica as it has the potential to prevent thousands of Dominicans who are eligible to vote from doing so.

7. It is important that the Electoral Commission acts now and with haste to preserve our democratic tradition and ensure that future elections are not adversely impacted, on account of their failure to act.

From all appearances, the UWP hopes to win the next election by osmosis and on a wing and a prayer.

At this late stage of the election stomping season, the opposition’s slogan might as well be “a failure to plan is a plan to fail”.

Unseating the current ruling party will require energetic and inspirational leaders who can convince a majority of the populous that they are capable of doing the hard and heavy lifting that task entails.

It is obvious that there is more energy and passion found in the little toes of UWP supporters on the DNO forum than in the collective bodies of the head honchos of the party.

You are right stupes, when a doctor is given the responsibility to protect the people’s $27,500US,and he turns around and transferred that money to his personal bank account without authority, then this man is truly intelligent and honest.Tell Dominicans, show them what Fontaine did in the interest during the 14 years he spent working with the IMF and in South Sudan.People like all you took damn wicked, because all you daft, dumd, ignorant, blind and lying all you think the majority of Dominicans are idiots. This guy Fontaine you say is soooooo intelligent spent all his young and fruitful days working out of Dominica, now he is passing 60,and have nothing tangible to show.Truly that is the characteristics of an intelligent man.A man with a doctorate in economics who no country will employ is truly intelligent. The Dominican people know about their money and DASS,they know about their land at Rosalie and they know what dishonesty is.

Another thoughtful and intelligent utterance on the issues from UWP. I see the hand of Fontaine in this.

For all his failings our people are not of the mind to appreciate some of his better qualities. If it good say it good if it bad say it bad but not even considering the high level of prejudicial selfishness and hate rampant today many lack the sense to tell the difference between intelligent and unintelligent words and actions.

Their (our) minds have become so corrupted and complacent in its functioning because so relatively few of Fontaine’s mental calibre exist among us. Its just not popular to be smart and thoughtful, its even threatening and intolerable to those that follow the tendency of more shallow sensibilities.

Dr. Fontaine’s leadership of the UWP leaves much to be desired. At best, it is pedestrian and I am being very generous to him.

He is a morally outstanding person. Intellectually, he is quite sound. But truthfully, he is too tedious. He has no sparkle, exuberance nor charisma.

After three or four years as leader, he should have had all his caretakers for the different constituencies in place going from door to door. I will repeat this for it is a fact. Under the stewardship of the good doctor, the UWP has regressed badly. It’s an illusion to think that UWP can win the next general election with Dr. Fontaine’s pitiful management.

We can agree on somethings but you are still far from reality in that made up headspace you live in.

“After three or four years as leader, he should have had all his caretakers for the different constituencies in place going from door to door”

Did Linton achieve this? No he didn’t why are you foisting this on Fontaine?

You seem to understand the world in terms of Ego drive and follow these false hero narratives that support it. No one can bring blood from stone. If you study unadulterated history and understand it well enough you would know things only happen when the factors are right then small groups or individuals can use the circumstances to make change, its no movie no one lead actor.

Many people fail or sacrifice their life before change happens, change will only come when the people are ready with the right circumstances.

Realistically there may be no path to change for sometime until there is political will for change and all necessary things are in place.

For there to be change the change leaders must have a political philosophy. What may I ask is the political philosophy of Thompson Fontaine. Criticizing every action of government is just mundane and can’t lead to meaningful change.

The Ba-Rob-Us regime’s sole intention is to steal another election. They want to extend their stay in power to perpetuity. These people have no conscience. Trying to appeal to sense of justice/fairness is completely futile.

They will have to be forced in order to do the right things. The UWP leadership clearly doesn’t have the influence nor momentum to muster a massive protest. The party is too timid, weak and disorganised. They need an injection of energy, boldness and defiance.

Stop wasting time appealing to the Electoral Commission. It is Roosevelt who runs all things concerning public affairs in Dominica. Call him out!

Dr. Fontaine’s leadership has been found wanting. It lacks energy, vitality, conviction and is uninspiring. The party is in a quandary. That’s a fact.

No one wants any sort of violence from the leader of the UWP. But, the supporters need their leader become more active, assertive and aggressive. This pregnant silence won’t work.

I’m not a super fan of Fontaine but he has some strong merits. He is willing to think genuinely and intelligently (for others) in a way our ppl often fail to.

“Supporters need their leader to become more active, assertive and aggressive.”
You are just projecting again, because of your own excessively self-centered and tyrannically aggressive tendencies. You think so highly of yourself that you seek to praise the bit of you that you see in others and your self obsessive egotistical nature pushes you to want others to be more like you and are intolerant of those who aren’t you have alot of company sadly…

But you you refuse to get you and people like you are part of the problem. Linton (who had his own merits) was bolder and more aggressive and it lead us to this point. All those people who got temporary emotional gratification for seeing his aggression play out still not in power.

W need to move beyond our shortsighted emotional mob approach to things and see reality…

Your idiotic tirade against me doesn’t help in any way. What are some of your solutions? Your long diatribe is so vacuous. Nothing substantive! People of your ilk are the most dangerous to society. Can barely articulate a point of view but believe you know it all. Delusional, egocentric blowhard!

You know what’s idiotic? Standing in a glass house and throwing stones.

There’s something sad and very low about how you just insult people with your failings. Playing a silly game where you attempt to make a short insulting quip and you think that means you’ve won, congratulations that’s puerile and very Trump like.

You can’t even come up with your own genuine insults and insights. It seems below the pretense and bluster there’s nothing there.

“Delusional, egocentric blowhard!” wow, you are the one who acts like a know it all thinking you are fit to judge Fontaine (and everybody) you disapprove of with unhinged certainty.

You misunderstand, you have never gotten the better of me in any of our exchanges and I only come on here in my spare time to backhand you before I move on to something else. This is low effort for me and you spend your whole day here.

Maybe you should go back to pretending to be MEME or whoever else you post as, you seem to be good at that, i.e pretending.

You have this misconception that arguments are won by being verbose or the number of decibels you can create. I challenged you to post some solutions to the political impasse/gridlock in Dominica. Your attempt at it was quite asinine at best. In fact, your feeble attempt at it amounted to just word salad.

Chupes! No one has ever accused of being bright but I will pose this question to you. If you were the leader of the main opposition party, what one significant strategy would you have employed to win the majority support of the electorate?

            @Ego,
In any given comment you are being daft, dishonest or both but consistently hypocritical.

Better arguments are made by giving well reasoned responses and effective appeals. Real arguments can actually be quite deep in their mechanics even if simple in execution, something that is beyond your superficial and ego driven mindset. This article is similarly beyond you but might help someone else who genuinely wants to understand: https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/argument/

Insult and grandstanding competitions are what you and perhaps the majority of people actually engage in when they say argument.

You can’t speak to genuine intelligence, Most people on here are brighter than you but that’s not saying much as you set a very low bar you just pretend high.

I didn’t even attempt to answer your original disingenuous and deflective question in part due to word limit so its a lie to call it as such so you can say it was asinine or feeble.

but I will respond in a separate post.

            @Ego
what one significant strategy would you have employed to win the majority support of the electorate?

I don’t have all the answers, no one does but the way you phrased the question makes it easy to respond to.

An ideal and even moral approach would be to engage the public in all available channels: social media (tik tok tout bagay), work, church, rum shops etc. Listening for feedback while building a grassroots connection to the people and using that to inform an appealing and effective campaign, not merely this moral preaching and somewhat standoffish approach from Linton (and Fontaine to a somewhat lesser degree).

However, what has worked in practice for the last 3 decades (evidenced by the party in power) is blatant bribery, ego pandering, intimidation and brainwashing of the media to corrupt every sector of life in Dominica.

At this point even the bare corruption itself is enticing to some Dominicans and many are too eager to support or be actively complicit in it.

Most people lie and politicians lie enough for everybody!

          ….but give Jack his Jacket

Whether you blue, red or just purple in the face from all your political prejudice these things are accurate about these public figures even if you catch them with their pants down on the toilet:

Skerrit is a savy politician who has an astute understanding of his people

Linton is/was a bold and fearless speaker willing to stand on his convictions.

Dr. Fontaine (a real Dr. hah!) is a broad intellect that is hard to match among his political peers.

though being a politician he is willing to bend narratives for his favor Fontaine often shows intellectually honesty when discussing facts.

Its the difference between someone who lies about his qualifications but is willing to admit 1 + 1 is 2 so he can get the correct answer and not look like a fool for saying is 3 + 3 that there….

          I not calling any PEE-EM name….

UWP is a dead political party and in no position to tell the commission what to do.They have no electoral seats and therefore do not represent anybody.I thought 5 was finally,I wonder what 7 is.The people have 12 months and possibly 15 months to confirm in thby that time EVERYBODY will be confirmed. With birth certificate dead people will vote,UWP supporters saw dead people vote in 2014 and 2019.Paul can get Peter birth certificate and use his photograph(Paul)and confirm as Paul.To prevent dead people voting there will be no birth certificate.UWP asked for voters picture id,they will get voters id from a valid picture id.Skerrit must give the commission a break.let them do their work.
