Suspect wanted in Dominican man’s death charged with murder

Peter Panthier Jr.

A shocking video capturing the moment a young Dominican was casually executed in the Streets of Queens New York left many baffled.

Nearly one later, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) arrested and charged one individual for the death of Peter Panthier Jr.

Jovan Springer, 29, was being investigated by the police and subsequently arrested on a raft of charges including weapons possession, menacing, and burglary in an unrelated Brooklyn case. He was held on a $500,000.00 bond in that case when he was arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court last week.

Over the weekend —January 28, 2023 — Springer was charged with the March 26, 2022, shooting death of 26-year-old Panthier Jr.

In the footage which surfaced last year following the incident, Springer, 29, was seen on video strolling alongside the victim on Grassmere Terrace near Ocean Crest Blvd. in Far Rockaway sometime in the evening, according to cops.

As they walked, the killer pulled out a gun and shot Panthier twice in the head, the video showed.

Panthier crumpled to the sidewalk and the shooter ran off.

Panthier was then rushed to the hospital but he did not survive. According to officers of the NYPD, they are still uncertain as to why the victim was killed as he had no arrest record, unlike the suspect, who has previous arrests for drug possession and criminal trespass.

Panthier, who was a former teacher in Dominica, studied Economics at the University of the West Indies (UWI) St. Augustine College in Trinidad & Tobago.

At the time of his death, he and his family had been residents in the USA for just over one year.

His mother, Joycelyn Dodds Panthier who spoke to The New York Post following her son’s killing, described him as “extremely smart.”

“He’s really super intelligent. He tested super high on his IQ. Einstein levels,” she said of her son, who was also an actor and musician who wrote his own songs.

She implored the Mayor of New York, Eric Adams to “fix the city. Something has to be done,” the grieving mother stated. “Hold people accountable for their actions. Children are dying.”

The father of the deceased, Peter Panthier Sr., who spoke to the New York Daily News, expressed his grief over the ordeal.
“They were walking together like they were friends, and he shot him. I can’t understand it,” he stated.  “He was executed. Oh my God, he was executed.”

“This is a sick guy. It’s sad. They took his life. He was just a young man,” Panthier Sr., said.

According to his family, the last time he was seen alive by them was about half past five when he boarded a car that awaited him outside of their home.

His family, who also stated that they were not well acquainted with his friends, had not heard of him being in any trouble.

Will the suspect be found guilty? Walking with a “stranger”? Was any of the victim’s possessions taken or stolen?

The Living God has answered the prayers of his loved ones. For this we give great praise and thanks. May the killer repent, seek forgiveness and come to know Jesus Messiah as his saviour as well .

So sad, so sad. Parents, please be involved in your children’s lives no matter how old rhey are. The USA is a very cold place and one can’t really trust anyone. Please tell your children to be aware of who they befriend and stay off the streets unless there’s something important they are doing out there. It’s too easy to own firearms in Babylon. Even our once safe Dominica has changed much more for these other countries.
My people, you can never be too protected. Stay off the streets, especially at nights.
