Donald “Tall-boy” Charles, well-known sports enthusiast from Pte. Michel, was laid to rest in his native village on Thursday, April 25, following a funeral mass at Our Lady of La Salette church in that village.
Charles died on April 13, 2013 at aged 92.
“Tallie or Tall-boy” as he was affectionately known, had a reputation as a sports fan which exceeded the boundaries of his home town.
Those who knew him say his love for the game was so strong that he would miss neither a local cricket game in his village, nor a test match or ODI in Dominica. His last appearance at an international cricket event at Windsor Park stadium was during the recent West Indies vs Zimbabwe series as a very senior spectator in the Phillip and Sandford stand.
Charles’ love for cricket had its roots in his own cotribution to the Pte. Michel cricket team for many years, as a wicket keeper.
He was also passionate about football and followed the progress of the Pointe Michel team whenever they played.
A strict disciplinarian, “Tall Boy” was also a Special Constable of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police force, for 47 years.
Among those attending Charles’ funeral were Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Parliamentary Representative for the area, Sam Martin and members of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force.

Ray Charles and Family,
I wish to express my sympathy for the loss of your Daddy (aka Tall Boy) and to let you know my thoughts are with you/family. May you find comfort in memories and strength in each other’s love throughout this difficult time.
Your Dad (Tall Boy) was a lot of things to many people and will be missed tremendously. He was a true giver who infused everyone around with love. This world will be a lonely place without him.
To this end, I’ll leave you these few words…
We all have a journey and leaving life behind is an honor.
One Love Always BRO!

I learned of Tall Boy on Sports Interaction with Ted Dailey and Ossie Lewis. The impression I got was that he was a stalwart in Ponte Michel. MY sympathy to his family, friends and the community of Pointe Michel.
DNO y not get a picture of tall boy. A coffin (casket) is not a picture of tall boy I can’t see through it.
RIP daddy.we all love u. Gone but surely not forgotten.u will always be remembered
