Dominica to improve security through ICT

Kelver Darroux

Dominica is expected to take on measures to improve its national security through Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

That’s according to Parliamentary Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Information Technology Kelver Darroux, who has just returned from the South Korea Caribbean Summit on ICT held in Trinidad.

Darroux said while Dominica has made several advancements where IT is concerned, there were key areas identified where more work needs to be done.

He pointed to national security and the role that ICT has to play in the security of Caribbean countries as being among those key areas.

“Trinidad has had some measures in place as well as Jamaica and moving forward I am sure other countries will come on board to protect their citizens,” Darroux said.

He said Dominica will be exploring ways to improve security through that form of technology.

The advancement of ICT in education was another component explored at the Trinidad summit, according to Darroux.

“Dominica has done well in this area. We have ensured that all the primary and secondary schools were provided with computer labs. The children are now better able to work in an ICT environment,” he added.

Kelver is the Parliamentary Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Information Technology, he’s not Jesus…. Though is report could have been better, i do say that we chose for him and therefore must give him the chance to develop himself.. we saw potential.

I do agree that he can do something for the people of st.joseph.. like build better schools etc… i don’t mean him walking down the streets and giving you money.. God gave you 2 feet and 2 hands.. and a brain.. USE THEM!!

Kelver is out of his league. I think he should be going at school learning about Information Communication Technologies and its role in human development, cyber security, smart grid technologies etc. At the moment I have to say this ICT thing is above his head. Can you imagine what the ICT professional from other countries must be saying when they engage Kelver. It not his fault really. The administration is to be blamed – I am certain that DA have individuals with the skills to deliver in this area but they insist on putting square pegs in round holes.

No Sense….. I would like to think that if he wasnt qualified for that position he would not be in that position… You have never been in the position yet you on the sidelines know who is capable of delivering and who isnt. When you re evaluate your comment i’m sure you would see that you are not making any sense.

Seriously man.. ICT is the new buzz word. First it was diversification now ICT.

If the government really interested in ICT, how about funding an App competition, the best BB/Iphone/Andriod app

Omg this help the poor people in st joe.. we are the poorest people in the country.. rah rah rah… bla bla bla.. ITS JUST GETTING OLD. One hand cannot clap and God doesnt help anyone who dont help themself.. So how do the people of St joe expect him to motivate the youths, take care of his duties assigned to him and still help the “poor People” of st joe.. The main reason he was nominated was because of his influence on the youths of the community of St Joe. Thats where his heart lies.. The foundation of any village is on the youths first.. STOP SITTING ON YOUR BUTTS AND HELP HIM MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR COMMUNITY. RUN YOUR IDEAS BY HIM. Be realistic because if you all are waiting for him to just come and build you homes or give you money then no progress will ever be made.. At the end of the day the last decision is not his.. Geez

What`s up with that??? computers in school great idea. But not even one security system in place to record some of the same persons who enters the same schools and steal the computers and the laws on the book does not accept in certain cases,”where alleged crooks are caught in the act of committing crimes by recording devices. We have to take things at all levels to the higher “LEVEL”. Always remember that.

I would like to hear more details on what the honourable gentleman has in mind but I am skeptical. “National security through ICT” sounds like governments giving themselves the right to spy on peoples emails and private communications. To remain free, a democratic people must always examine the actions and words of their elected officials and this is no exception!

Ready or not that is where we should have been. But we cannot put the cart before the horse. What I am saying, put the necessary things in place to implement those changes within the frame work of our legal system.

Since this Junior Minister constituency is considered to be the poorest in Dominica under his watch, may i suggest to him the opening of an ICT center in St.Joseph could turn things around in that community socially, some of the youths would be engaged in modern day technology and the next human development index report will give St. Joe a favorable rating
