Kelver Darroux says a government e-strategy is underway

Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister Kelvar Darroux responsible for Information Technology, says the final leg of an e-government strategy is under way.

Speaking at the press launch of ICT Fest 2013 on Wednesday, Darroux said the strategy is in its final stages.

‘We are in the final stages of the development of an e-Government strategy that identifies the need to become more constituent-centric and achieve greater integration and collaboration with other stakeholders, particularly the telecommunication providers,” he said.

He noted that the strategy will lead to a “higher level of integrated alliance” which will “contribute significantly to the establishment of a supportive environment that is conducive to innovation and risk taking.”

ICT FEST 2013 will be held on July 2 to 4 and Darroux also pointed out that the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector has the potential to create countless opportunities to people wherever they are.

He said at the end of the event it is expected that fresh ideas of ways of improving the sector will be brought forth. “ICT brings with it a myriad of opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship,” she said. “I expect that by July 4th we would have identified a number of innovations and opportunities for investment and continued development of our ICT sector.”

The festival will be held under the theme, “Empowering Citizens, Embracing the Future” and will take place from 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm each day at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

It will provide an interactive environment for showcasing ICT tools and solutions for everyday living – for citizens, businesses and government.

It will also offer exhibitions, competitions, seminars and workshops on ICT.

Additionally industry personnel will conduct seminars or workshops on the Internet Exchange Point (IXP), e-learning, cloud Computing, music and video production, visual effects, e-marketing and much more.

Members of the general public will have the opportunity to test their ICT knowledge in programming, web search, graphic design and computer assembly races during prize winning competitions.

Prizes include tablets, internet connections, cable connections, handsets among others.

more constituent-centric … man thats a big word!!! and the development of an e-Government strategy. Most welcomed, but seriously writing, I thought the Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, responsible for Information Technology would have used the opportunity to inform us Dominicans what are the highlights under the E-government strategy. We know of the ASYCUDA system now in place at the customs. But what about Lands and Housing, is there an online system for the registration and procurement of land. What about agriculture, is there an online systems for the registration of farmers, is there an online system for the verification of accepted chemicals used in agriculture. What about the creative arts, is there an online system for the registration of creative artist and thus the collection of royalties from the use of copyright material. What about the traffic department, is there an online system for the payment of road traffic tickets!! So before we have greater integration and collaboration with other stakeholders, particularly the telecommunication providers, may it be suggested that the e-government strategy think a bit deeper on the few selected points mentioned above.

You are wasting your breadth, these guys know all they have to do is read a prepared speech without substance and many people start shouting, good initiative, I rolling with Labour. No need to give specifics, they don’t what I’m talking about anyway.

This Minister is so involve with an important aspect of Information Technilogy yet still the constituency he represents is known to be the poorest in Dominica, The people of St. Joseph needs to ask themselves how is it that Ministers of Government who are responsible for certain portfolios ie Min of Works ensure that their constituency has benifited from the portfolio that they are responsible for, St Joseph today should have an ICT center not to be known as the poorest in Dominica, I hope he will pay the price for incompetent, inefficient and neglect of the St Joseph Constituency soon, here you are Kelver Darroux talking about ICT yet you cannot promise your constituency an ICT center for the west coast.
