Former Health Minister, Julius Timothy has been appointed Dominica’s new Director on the board of the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL).

Timothy replaces Ian Munroe who served on the board for the last three years.

Minister for Information, Science, Telecommunications and Technology Kelver Darroux said he is confident that Timothy will bring a wealth of knowledge to the board of ECTEL.

“Mr Timothy will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in governance to the board as well as in decision-making of the board and provide valid and necessary advice to the minister of telecoms,” he said.

Darroux commended Munroe’s service over the years saying he provided very decisive advice to the Minister of Telecoms as well as making very effective and proper representation on behalf of Dominica.

The Board of Directors of ECTEL will meet in Dominica on Friday, January 22nd to host its 73rd meeting where they will review the electronic communications sector during 2015 and update the board on the progress of discussions relating to a proposed agreement between Cable and Wireless, Flow and ECTEL, among other agenda items.

The meeting will take place at Fort Young Hotel Conference Room in Roseau.

Prior to Friday’s Board Meeting, ECTEL will also launch the souvenir edition of its 15th Anniversary Magazine and its 2014 annual report. ECTEL celebrated its 15th anniversary on May 4, 2015, and initiated year- long celebrations to observe the milestone. Next Thursday’s launch of the Anniversary Magazine will be another such event. The launch will also take place at the Fort Young Hotel.

Dominica has been a member of ECTEL for the past 15 years.

We never really know what side you are on Julius, except your own, of course. Can we now expect you to do Cable & Wireless’ bidding or will you play them off against Digicell? I do admire your dexterity in these kind of games.

Please show some maturity, appoint a UWP supporter to a post or two, it will not hurt your image. This is coming from a matured Labour supporter.

There are always jobs with high salaries available for former ministers. One would think that Mr. Timothy could retire.

Its ok, he kill healthcare to the extent that the very hospitals under his watch could not have treated him for a stroke now he in charge of something else?

Ebbeh look it! Timothy is a finance guy (pretty good at it) and thats that for him. But I guess its another job from the DLP Cabal to him for his silence and conformity. Garson Tim, go relax yourself because is not money you need. Let a younger person have an opportunity too. God doh like ugly.

Is it greed or a case of the lack of power within one’s self to say to Skeritt no, I am sorry I cannot do it. The man was speared by Jesus, received another chance to live a longer life, also, the man has businesses and is financially strong. When the master calls, regardless to the circumstances, the man just does not have the free will to say no massa, allow a younger Dominican an opportunity.

Hope Jesus did not “spear” him Doc. but “spared” him instead. We are going from bad to worse, from decent postage stamps to stamps without glue that fall apart when you look at them. Such is the next level.

Why didn’t your messiah (Lennox) allow another person to be the leader of the UWP? When he knows damn well under his leadership UWP can never form the Government of Dominica!.

    • January 22, 2016

The young people want have any chance if they just sit back and don’t speak out, the man could at least think of a younger person for the job, but remember once you a educated in DA the PM will not employ you .
Young people it’s all up to you to make the changes that will make the difference.

Mr. Julius is supposed to be neutral in that post. Do you believe it? I see him more like lame duck, but a mischievous one. So many lame ducks in mr. Skerrit’s ranks. Some of the even have to go to the Pope in Rome to confess because nobody in Dominica is big enough to forgive their sins.
