LIME today launched the new BlackBerry® Torch™ 9800 smartphone in Dominica.
Ideal for socially connected consumers and packed with the tools business customers love, the new handset offers elegant styling with top-of-the-line features and functionality. It’s the world’s first smartphone to combine a BlackBerry® keyboard with a full touch screen experience and the first to feature the new BlackBerry® 6.
“The new Blackberry Torch has strong consumer appeal and reflects the evolution of BlackBerry smartphones as more than just a tool for email, to make phone calls and exchange messages on BBM. With consumer demands ever increasing, the added features and improvements of this smartphone will only serve to make the Blackberry experience more approachable, engaging and fun,” said Mr. David Smith, VP Marketing Communications.
Featuring an exciting combination of a large capacitive touch screen and optical track pad with a backlit slide-out BlackBerry keyboard, it is designed to feel optimally balanced when opened for typing. It also offers support for high-speed 3G (UMTS/HSDPA) networks around the world, includes the latest generation in Wi-Fi® (b/g/n) connectivity and built-in GPS for location-based applications and geo-tagging.
Its 5 MP camera takes exceptional pictures with continuous auto focus, image stabilization, scene modes and zoom, and it also supports video recording. In addition, it comes with a combined 8 GB of media storage out-of-the-box, and includes a microSD/SDHD memory card slot that can bring the total storage memory to 36 GB for customers that want more.
The BlackBerry Torch is the first to launch with BlackBerry 6, a new operating system for BlackBerry smartphones. It features a redesigned interface, and a new and rich WebKit-based browser that renders HTML web pages (as well as HTML email) quickly and beautifully for a great browsing experience. The browser includes tabs for accessing multiple sites simultaneously, pinch to zoom and an auto-wrap text zoom feature that can intelligently wrap text in a column while maintaining the placement of a page’s key elements (simply double-tap on the BlackBerry Torch).
BlackBerry 6 features a redesigned interface that seamlessly works with the touch screen and track pad, includes expanded messaging capabilities with intuitive features to simplify the management of social networking and RSS feeds (Social Feeds), and provides integrated access to the BlackBerry® Messenger (BBM™), Facebook®, Twitter™, MySpace™ and various instant messaging applications available on the BlackBerry Torch smartphone. A universal search feature allows users to search for content on the smartphone, as well as extend the search to the Internet or to discover applications on BlackBerry App World™, which is included and now supports credit card payments.
The BlackBerry Torch smartphone is expected to be available in LIME stores from today Wednesday November 10, 2010.
With a postpaid plan, the handset sells for $2,259.00; and on a prepaid plan, the price is $2,229.00.
LIME also recently announced a new lower cost BlackBerry Social Plan, which gives users access to social networking sites like Facebook® and all the functionality of BBM at a minimal rate.

ONLY IN DOMINICA…….That’s my new slogan………$2300 for a cell phone./…best we connect string to a can like back in the day & make walkie talkie……
Lets wait and see how many people in Dominica purchase one.
Considering most people claim to be skint and living on a day to day basis, you will still see the wanna bees flashing their new toy. No I am not jealous, as I am fortunate that I am able to afford
one, but I can think of many things that I can spend my hard working money on.
Yes there are a few parents who will purchase this latest blackberry for their kids, so that they can
show off to their less advantageous piers, but they should think of what will happen when they can no longer afford to buy them the latest new trend.
Technology is a wonderful thing, but it should not take presidence over our lifes.
WE DOMINICANS WORRY ABOUTH THE WRONG THINGS !
PAY ATTENTION TO THE DOMINICAN PASSPORTS BEING ISSUED TO NON RESIDENTS WHO CONTRIBUTE ABSOLUTLY NOTHING TOWARDS THE UPLIFTMENT OF OUR ISLAND !

@Martin de Porres: I assume there would be customs duty plus vat added on and of course the seller has to make a profit in dominica.
this is redic only in dominica lol,for a blackberry torch? thats a mortgage and car payment.not even an iphone4 lol lime are u guys serious?
Why would someone pay this kind of money for that phone.
In the US it sells for $199.99USD with a 2yr contract (Post Paid) – $537.61ECD.
Or you can buy with no commitment for $$499.99USD – $1344.07ECD
So this leaves $914.93 for Duty and profit…..These guys are milking it big time.
The thing is there are many people who complain all the time, but they will shell out the money for the phone.
