These stunning shots show snorkellers coming face to face with the world’s largest predator, the sperm whale.
Taken by British marine biologist Arun Madisetti off Dominica in the Caribbean where he now lives, the curious whales interact with the divers, allowing them to get up close.
Hunted for their oil and demonised as savage brutes in fiction such as Herman Melville’s Moby Dick, these pictures show a gentler side to one of the planet’s largest mammals.
I didn´t have a chance to spot whales while diving in Dominica this year though I have to say i visited mostly all diving spots on this map: http://www.traveldominica.net/diving/
Next year I will try to spot whales..
Thanks Dominicans !!!

Why does the great news get small reply? Sad
Just beautiful
This is actually in the daily mail. That’s huge! Way to go dca! I love
Real great stuff!!! Simply amazing!!!
It’s so sad though that so few Dominicans took time off to comment on this piece, yet if it was something negative or anti-government there would have been hundreds of posts.
I hope this doesn’t say much to what we are becoming as a people because if this is the case, it would be sooo sad.
With our decision a few years ago to stop supporting the killing of whales, Dominica is benefitting from the attention of environmentalists world wide. Great, Dominica. Keep on chucking!
Congratulations sweet Dominica.
What a gem we have, what a gem.
It was also featured on the Today Show.
