Parliamentary Representative of the Vieille Case Constituency, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that his government will provide the Principal of the Thibaud Primary School, Kisha Remie with a full scholarship to pursue studies in special education commencing in September this year.
He made the announcement while delivering remarks at the groundbreaking ceremony to mark the construction of the new Thibaud Primary School on Wednesday.
According to Mr. Skerrit, his government shall transform this new Thibaud Primary School to a center for children with special needs.
“This is a matter that myself and the principal have discussed over the last several weeks and [as] as a matter of fact, I will say to you publicly in anticipation of this new thrust the Government of Dominica shall provide the principal of the Thibaud Primary School with a full scholarship to pursue studies in special education commencing in September 2024,” he revealed.
He continued, “We have to provide in a special way to our special needs children and I am looking forward to transforming the school into a center of excellence for the north of Dominica.”
He mentioned further that transportation will also be provided to students to ensure that they have all is required to attend school.
The school was severely damaged following the passage of Hurricane Maria in 2017.
Are we even sure Kisha has the cognitive capacity to attend university and attain the information needed to run a special needs center. She can barely manage a small school. Rumors are buzzing around about the discord and confusion going on at the school that is currently housing Thibaud primary. It appears that she is at the center stirring the pot and is least concerned about students’ well being. What a SHAME!!!! Let the Turkey and Ham distributor go and study. I hope it will bring her much needed peace and validation, so she can learn how to treat people. And learn to love herself and be confident. Hopefully she learns something and can make a difference.

This is why skerrit is a jack Asterix. the principal is and administrator and most administrators do not have time to teach. Special education has a wide spectrum: English as a second language, behavioral issues, the range of writing disorders, gifted and talented, physical challenged, and kids who are just super creative. Which one is she going to gain expertise in? is she coming back to teach everyone and still be principal because it would make no sense. A simple solution would be to mention first the critical need, then create job Requisition to hire the skills that I bet exist across caricom. Here is an example of regional integration. The administrator does not need to be the like the Jack Asterix of all trade but just need to put correct people in right place.
The principal is more known and respected in the community for sharing Skerrit’s Ham and Turkey than as principal of school .
For the sake of information let me also inform you that the father of the Principal is Theodore Remmie, the same one that went to the court to lie for Skerrit during the French citizen lies of Skerrit and Tony.
Now in 2022 during the last election Skerrit called to officially fire his top boys like Blackmore, Reggie and Dr Darroux, Skerrit told laborites that he was only going to serve for another 2.5 more years. But thinking of what he said he’s going to do for the children of Thibaud, for which reason he said he will be sending his Turkey and Ham distributing principal study, does that sound like a man that will be leaving office in 12 months or so? Although they never told us when that new school will be completed but word on the ground is 2yrs from now or 2026. So Skerrit will you still be in office come 2026?

Gason look a ground breaking of lies, confusion and doubt. First, hurricane Maria was in 2017 and all of us know in 2009 hurricane Skerrit demolished the school that was built by EO Leblanc in 1974. Skerrit built a plywood fowl cage and that’s what hurricane Maria partially destroyed .
Skerrit announced that come September 2024 his Turkey and Ham distributor will be getting a full scholarship from the government. Mr Skerrit where will she be attending school and how long will the known Turkey and Ham distributor will be gone for? Are you getting her out of Dominica to never return except election time?

Thibaud is a very small village and no one has to travel more than quarter a mile to school and Skerrit going to transport them? Boy just lies
I hope they have money to pay for this scholarship. What is the government doing about the scholarships of the many students studying abroad?
Is the Prime Minister paying for this out of POCKET – himself or the taxpayers money giving people scholarships personally.

Great start. As a Principal of an Elementary school, one should possess the education required of him or her to command that position. That is progress.
Roosevelt it’s good to develop the country’s human resources. This particular scholarship is relatively common in other OECS territories. The prime ministers of these countries do not cock-a-doodle-doo about it.
I don’t know the lucky recipient but I will bet my last dollar she is a DLP diehard. Discrimination is rife in Dominica. A supporter or a politically purple person would never be considered.
Roosevelt majors in minors. Can he boast about the well built and maintained infrastructure, the high standard of living, the visionary leadership of the government, the level playing field of the electoral system?
Dominica is in disarray. Roosevelt and his ruling party are jittery. They see the writing on the wall. That’s the reason you are hearing the deceptive PM pontificating about conventional things the government does.

No offense but the scholarship being common in other OECS countries is not in the manner – a principal getting this scholarship Special Education – I can understand Leadership training as well as management of schools etc. An individual who is a top position at a school as principal I don’t see Special Ed doing anything short of taking bread from your teachers’ mouths. A principal would want to have a great staff trained staff to assist students.
This is not commendable this is garbage. How is the Prime Minister the one offering a scholarship – the scholarship should come from the Ministry of Education and have applications accepted going through the principal – he is no longer the Minister of Education – unless the current Minister is not working or is he doing everybody’s job.

As it is written in the Holy Book, “By their fruits you shall know them.” Meaning, the things that they do or refuses to do depicts the absolute true nature of that creature. Think of it this way, if we were to walk in public absolutely naked then others would see our true outward self. And frankly, I’d be ashamed to walk naked and show my scared body. But there are folks out there committing all sorts of crimes openly for all to see and know about! Yet, they’re not ashamed or embarrassed of themselves. They have shielded themselves with the shields which were installed for the sole purpose of shielding and protection of the citizens. This is extremely dangerous. The citizens of Dominica are left open to themselves without their constitutional protection which is being supported with their tax dollars. Henceforth, the citizens of Dominica may have no choice but to protect themselves any way they can.

The award of a full scholarship to the current principal is commendable. However, the TIMING of the decision reflects a lack of PROPER PLANNING. It can be reasonably assumed that the decision to build the new structure was not made on Wednesday ;consequently she should have been at university prior so that on completion of construction she would have already obtained qualification and taken on her new responsibilities in a seamless manner. Don’t you think?

This is how it works. So many years after the hurricane and the principal is the one benefitting.
There is no other teacher in the school itself that could benefit from this. There definitely are teachers in the school who would stand to benefit and utilize this training more effectively in the educational system instead giving the scholarship to the principal for special ed. I can understand a principal getting additional leadership training which would definitely help the school staff on a whole. and even other principals as they do have principals’ meetings and workshops – I hope these are still in place.
