Dominica welcomes three cruise ships in port today, namely, the MV Seabourn Ovation, MS Eurodam, and MS Zaandam.
The arrival of Mein Schiff 4 signaled the first cruise call for the 2023-2024 season on Monday, October 30.
Approximately 222 cruise calls are anticipated for this season, a promising increase from 190 calls in the 2022-2023 season.
I mean we need to STOP celebrating or even accepting mediocrity. Im not confused. I know sense from nonsense. If you knew better you would expect better as well. Maybe you do but they put ham and turkey in your mouth to shut you up. so keep supporting nonsense. is that you voted for right?
This is not the first time that three cruise ship have visited Dominica on the same day.
Up to five maybe six cruise ships have made visits to Dominica on the same day on more than one occasion in the past.
So that is not a milestone in terms of cruise ship arrivals.
When cruise ship arrivals upwards of five cruise ships visit Dominica impacting all ports- Roseau Cruise ship berth, Woodbridge Bay Port, and, Cabrits Cruise Ship Berth. Only then we can start talking about milestones.
And FYI during the reign of the UWP government the cruise industry did well in Dominica. So know the facts.
Does anyone know if Cabo Rojo cruise port is ready to have ships dock soon?
@Lin Clown
You certainly lack the capacity to refer to anyone on DNO as stupid, since you wear the crown of stupiduty here. Your reading, spelling, grammar and sentence structure imply that you don’t even have an IQ..
Stop embarrassing yourself.
Things like that UWP and the recalcitrant aholes want to destroy.More threes to come Mr.Cricket Lovely negative Jacka.Antigua is Antigua,Dominica is Dominica.Different strokes for different folks.
Yaay 3 ships at birth TODAY. this is a huge milestone, so everybody lets celebrate! yay! But meanwhile, in places like St. Kitts, having 3-5 ships on a daily basis is just business as usual. At some point, it might be 10 yrs from now, maybe 100 years from now, we will realize that how we have been operating is only shooting ourselves in the feet. We speak about development, but it is usually shoddy and mediocre. For example, government building/resurfacing roads for safer user friendly movement of people but refuse to build proper drainage, sidewalks, no thought of lighting or even PARKING LANES. But no, the flat road alone is good enough for Dominicans for the meantime. So at some point we will learn. Might be too late but will realize at least we are not experts in tourism.
You mean, you are vex when there are none and you are still ex when there are three and Dominicans can earn some money? Are you confused?
Just 3 ships? SM & StT gets 5 to 8 sometimes per day and struggling, meaning you can’t have an economy based on tourism. You need a mix but agro based.
There are many pros and cons to the cruise ship industry which I will attempt to list:
Pros:
1. the Ministry of Tourism can boast an increase in tourism to justify its exiistence.
2. a few tour operators and bus drivers increase their earnings.
3. vendors on the Bayfront sell a few trinkets.
Cons:
1. restaurants and bars make minuscule profit as food and beverages are provided on board.
2. we dispose of their rubbish in our limited landfill site.
3. we provide the cruiseships with water.
4. we are inconvenienced by the closing off of parts of the Bayfront to traffic, slowing it down and making parking even more difficult.
5. The influx of visitors encourages begging.
6. these vessels act as massive floating incubators for new strains of flue, Covid and any other transmittable illness from around the globe.
7. Dominicans and stay-over visitors pay an exit tax when departing, but cruise ship passengers pay nothing. I favour a US$10 environment tax on each passenger to disembark.
oh my….this is good news…but don’t the government see it fit to fix this port to have a better port….they travel all over the world Dubai…etc even in the Caribbean…it’s such a disgrace to to a port which was built since Christopher Columbus days….alas….are we proud of this….and they want to make cable cart…..where are your priorities…
This would not make news in Antigua or St Kitts/Nevis. According to foul mouth Austrie, Dominica is tired of being LAST in everything.
Very different tourism products. Stop this silly self-loathing and embrace positivity!
