Discover Dominica Authority recently hosted Mr. Jens Kuhr, Director of Public Relations of the German Hiking Association, from March 23 – 29, 2015.

While on island, Mr. Kuhr performed several hikes such as Morne Diablotins, L’escalier Tete Chien and segments of the Waitukubuli National Trail.

The press trip also covered many other aspects of Dominica’s tourism products to include sites such as Trafalgar Falls, Emerald Pool, Spanny Falls, sulphur spas and the Indian River, as well as activities, local dining and accommodation. The articles he will produce will be featured in two magazines of the German Hiking Association, one of which is their yearly magazine being published in December 2015. T

he yearly magazine is also available as an e-paper on the website of the German Hiking Association. Furthermore, Mr. Kuhr will be a good ambassador of Dominica within the German hiking communities.

The Authority also hosted German journalist, Florian Guthknecht from March 25 – 30, 2015 on a press trip designed to select filming locations for a film production crew coming later this year.

The interest areas for the press trip included general nature and tourism, sea turtles, whales, birds, community projects, and the Kalinago.

Mr. Guthknecht will be producing media content in print, digital and televised format for release on the German public TV channels ARTE and ARD (German-French co-op channel), and the Austrian public TV channel ORF. A team commissioned from the TV channels will be producing two 52-minute films about Dominica and Guadeloupe in 2015/2016 to be published on these channels and others.

A publication about the Kalinago people in Dominica will also appear this year in the German daily newspaper, Süddeutsche Zeitung (www.sueddeutsche.de), Germany’s biggest nationwide quality newspaper. The paper has coverage of 1.43 million readers daily and 418,170 daily in the printed edition.

Discover Dominica Authority believes that these two press trips will create excellent marketing opportunities for Dominica in the German markets, yielding great promotional benefits for the destination, its niche sectors and tourism stakeholders.
