DDA partners with LIAT

Discover Dominica Authority has partnered with LIAT to launch discounted airfares to hoteliers and travel agents visiting Dominica between October 1 – December 31, 2015.

Travel agents and hoteliers originating from Antigua, Barbados, Guadeloupe, St. Lucia and St. Maarten are eligible for US$100 discount off a return fare flight to Dominica. In addition, five Dominican hotels are offering reductions on hotel rooms ranging from 25 – 50 per cent off their regular rates. Hotel specials are available from the Anchorage Hotel, Citrus Creek Plantation, Fort Young Hotel, Pagua Bay House and The Champs.

This initiative is just one of the many collaborative efforts between Discover Dominica Authority and regional carrier, LIAT, to facilitate travel for promotional purposes. In July, LIAT carried Barbadian professional surfer Brian Talma’s to Dominica for Dive Fest activities from July 17 – 20, 2015. The airline also assisted with the travel arrangements and transportation of costumes for Miss Dominica 2015 to participate in the Miss Jaycees Queen Pageant held in Antigua on July 26, 2015 and the Miss Caribbean Culture Queen Show held in Nevis on August 6, 2015.

“LIAT works closely with its main Shareholder Governments to facilitate their travel to key events around the region, to assist them in travel arrangements for visiting artists and to attract people to visit the island,” said a LIAT representative. Meanwhile Director of Tourism, Mr. Colin Piper sees this partnership as one that is mutually beneficial.”

According to Piper, “Air access is critical to facilitating travel of residents and visitors in and out of Dominica and LIAT has been willing to work with Dominica in this regard”.

I don’t care about all you but I more trust LIAT Airlines to transport me any day and they’re doing a Damn Good Job. Cierco and Malatete, it’s obvious that you guys don’t know the condition of the Airport yet still you want LIAT to operate within a time that is not safe to land. LIAT has to abide under the instructions given by the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority. The people of Dominica need to educate themselves about how Airlines function because they continue to cause unnecessary situations at other Caribbean airports and become the laughing stocks of the whole region due to the remarks they cast. SEEK KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM DOMINICANS BECAUSE YOU NEED IT. A Beautiful island with special people cannot be acting like the unlearned.

To be real we have to understand that even LIAT pilots prefer not to land at Melville Hall (DOM) after dark. This is exacerbated by the restrictions that currently apply to aircraft movements at the airport as per the notams (advice to aviators) issued by the FAA. In short:
    – there is a treshold restriction at the western end of runway 09 because of a 15 mt. area of pavement damage
    – sr-ss lighting unavailable til 31 Dec. 2015
    – caution in place for working men and equipment
    – half of the western part of the parking area (apron) damaged. Caution in place till 10 Dec. 2015.

I understand the authorities may not wish to alarm the public but at the same time this info. is in the public domain and it is perfectly safe to fly in/out of Melville Hall provided these cautions are observed and taken into account, which any sensible pilot and airline will do.

It’s shameful being informed that intending vacationers are choosing other destinations solely because of having to overnight in Antigua.
Are we ever going to eradicate that problem

Come LIAT, you might as well offer a discounted fair to Dominica because the passenger now has to pay for overnighting in Antigua. There is 1 (one) flight from Antigua to Dominica each day leaving at 7:10am. It leaves me to wonder whether this was done on purpose to take advantage of our current situation in Dominica and force Dominicans to overnight in Antigua and to have Antigua profit out of this. Shame on you LIAT. Why not put in a 4pm flight to Dominica so the flight gets here before sundown?

WDMA DDA? WCMF is cancelled despite hoteliers and tourism employees telling you all how much they need the income…so now we offer DISCOUNTED hotel rates to entice visitors b/c we finally see how much we need those tourism $$?

Keeping WCMF would have assured all rooms would be filled at regular or even increased rates?! But you all listen to a mad man saying “no sewo” only to now beg people to come and do what?

Heres some advice…plan the mother of all carnivals and try to line up this Liat discount for that time period to bring in a bigger crowd. If you can’t pull that off…just quit and bring in a consultant or two from the Bbdos and St. Lucia.

So how do the “customers” of Liat benefit from the discounts? And why would the DDA push for lower fares for hoteliers and travel agents only? Perhaps I read the article too quickly and missed the main points, but it seems the DDA arranged discount for VIP’s/Celebrities and not regular people.

With the previous comment about the Time that Liat leaves for Dominica from Antigua or Barbados the time should be 4:30pm, Instead of 230pm departure, So the passage can get to reach Dominica the same day.

You all are not learning and will continue to let Liat treat us as poopoo in Dominica. As we speak up till the last day of 2015, to get out of America, one has to overnight in Puerto Rico in other to catch their one and only 6:25 am flight. Then if they are lucky enough to catch it, liat will not get you to Dominica until 4:20pm, but expect 6pm knowing them.

Why couldn’t they partner with and support Sam Rafael and Hummingbird Air. They provide great service to Dominica, while LIAT have been a disappointment

Do we have any educated people in Dominica to make wise comments. Those people are attacking an Airline which serves the region and not the Governments which makes millions on LIAT through sky high taxes. LIAT is not at fault here people open your heads.

I was told to travel from ST Thomas to Dominica
one has to overnight in Antigua and take the morning flight
to Charles-Douglas airport. Is this true? and if it is how and when
is going to be fixed. Some people who were scheduled to
travel to Dominica have cancelled their flight for the inconvenience
    and the added cost.

You can fly from St. Thomas to Canefield airport direct by Hummingbird Air.

DDA please tell your “partner” Liat that travelers from the US must overnight in Barbados or Antigua at great expense before arriving in Dominica. If the 2:40 pm flight from Barbados to Dominica was changed to 4:40 pm (the 6:00pm flight was cancelled) , then Jet Blue travelers from JFK , as well as, Air Canada and European travelers could get to Dominica in one day thus saving time and expense. Come on – fix this!

Due to the ravages of Tropical Storm Erika, please be advised that the Airport in Dominica has restrictions so LIAT has to make amendments to it’s flight schedule to Dominica. CIERCO, please advise JetBlue and Air Canada to change their flight times to suit the LIAT SCHEDULE CHANGES…. thank YOU.

        October 16, 2015

I don’t know whom you are a supporter off but it can not be our Prime Minister who presented a budget on the theme of being real. The reality is that neither JetBlue, Westjet, Aircanada, American, Virgin, BA nor any other big ailine will change their schedules to suit LIAT to accommodate the relatively few pax they carry for Dominica. We can dream but that is the reality.

I agree Cicero. Even for travelling out of the UK to Dominica I have had to overnight in Barbados. Ultimately Antigua & Barbados have both benefited greatly by the lack of aggressive negotiation on Dominica’s behalf by DDA/government etc to amend this long standing inconvenience.

Try flying via Martinique. There are services from London City airport to Paris Orly, from where there are several flights a day to Martinique. You will have to overnight in Martinique to catch a next day ferry to Roseau but I find that preferable to the Barbados option. Besides, you can do some shopping for French delicacies in Martinique the day of your arrival and reach Roseau by ferry in in no more than two hours, with no limitation on your luggage weight.

My dear wouldn’t you rather overnight in safety than land at our beautiful airport where the night landing is not quite functional as yet? better safe than sorry right? Before you go ahead and blast LIAT please try to be practical and understand that the flights in the system are to ensure safety of the passengers.

Travel agent, be realistic. With restrictions like that tourists are likely to go elswhere. They are not interested in our problems.

As I read it these discounts only available to hoteliers and travel agents within a restricted regional radius. What about, their customers, the tourists on whose money all of them ultimately depend, including LIAT
