Tourism Month kicks off with award ceremony

tourismThe Tourism Industry Awards slated for Wednesday evening will kick off Tourism Awareness month in Dominica.

Tourism Awareness month is usually celebrated in the month of May and will be held under the banner “Tourism is Everybody’s Business: Let’s Play our Part.”

The theme for this year, “Rediscover Dominica”, urges Dominicans to make a special effort to re-discover their home and enjoy Dominica’s tourism products and services.

The ultimate objective of the month long celebration is to increase public awareness of the tourism and hospitality industry’s economic, cultural, and social contributions to our Nature Isle, Dominica, according to the Discover Dominica Authority.

The award ceremony will recognize various individuals and organizations who have made a valiant contribution towards tourism development in Dominica.

Awards to be presented include Best Tourism Feature Award,  Accommodation of the Year, Industry Employee of the Year, Tour Operator of the Year, Tour Guide of the Year, Tourism Vendor of the Year, Tourism Taxi Service Provider of the Year, Community Tourism Development and Responsible Tourism.

The award ceremony will commence at 5:00 pm at the Krazy Kokonutz.

Some of the events planned for Tourism Month are:

-The Tourism Youth Congress (May 3)
-Hike Fest (May 4, 11, & 18)
-DDA & You Workshop (May 9)
-Portsmouth Paint-A-Thon (May 11 – 12)
-Jazz n’ Creole (May 19)
-Tourism Fun Day (May 26)
-Service Providers Appreciation Day (May 29)
-DHTA Cocktail Party (June 1)

    Best they make Hon. Reginald Austrie or Hon.Raymond Blackmoore as Tourism Minister we boy. These men are easily the most competent and hardest and most organized ministers of Government. They deliver both as ministers and as parl reps. I don’t think a Minister should be lazy.
    I also hope additionally that the PM replace Ambrose George as our candidate in Roseau South…..Trust me we labourites tired of mister..new fresh blood is needed.

    UPSIDE DOWN COUNTRY
    Tourist Season closes and Tourist Month opens. It is ONLY in Dominica you can hear such foolishness.
    Best the government dissolve or seriously reform that tourism Discover Dominica Foolishness we have there. It is so much talk and no work. So much Accent on the wrong things and we going no papat where. Roseau so dirty. Paro all over the city. No fees to be paid at Botanical Gardens- yet we begging for revenue. So many tourist sites are unaccessible. Big salary for some lazy people.

    Having experienced wuth the departing Ross University Students what they discribed as the “horror of Melville Hall” some ten days ago I hope the focus will be on repairing the leaking roof,providing adequate toilets for arriving passengers,larger arrival and departure areas and secruity search area at this airport immediately..And less public relations talk!
