Trade Minister, Dr. Colin McIntyre, has said that government is aggressively securing markets in order to expand exports.

Dr. McIntyre made the remarks at the opening ceremony of Market Day with a Difference on Saturday.

“As a government we have taken the responsibility to secure the livelihoods of our farmers, working aggressively and securing markets and defending our positions on regional markets,” the minister said.

He said presently, as part of the work of Dominica Export Import Agency (DEXIA) under the National Export Strategy, the government is in a process of completing two major consultancies in Guadeloupe, Martinique and St Maarten, “to expand Dominican export in six private sectors identified in the National Export Strategy.”

“In St Maarten we are responding to challenges encountered by the huckster trade with establishments of a training company and regularized trade to that market,” the minister stated, adding that “Other initiatives are being contemplated in other regional and extra regional markets.”

Meanwhile Dr. McIntyre called on all Dominicans to a part in developing Dominica.

“When I addressed you on the occasion of our 36th Anniversary of Independence, I highlighted the fact that we need to unite our skills, knowledge and talent in important tasks in nation building,” he said. “Today, as we celebrate Market Day with a Difference 2014 under the theme, ‘Our Nation, Our Responsibility’ I again appeal to all of you Dominicans to shoulder our responsibility in building this beautiful country.”

He added, “Each of us has the responsibly to manage the things under our control for the common good of society. That responsibility is manifested in how we undertake productive activities in agriculture, tourism, manufacturing and cultural industries.”

He said Dominicans have a responsibility to ensure that, “We do not sacrifice  the ability of future generations in meeting their own needs by adopting good agricultural and manufacturing practices.”

Here is how I see it. After 14 years and no plans on how to develop our country, the DLP is now scrambling. the new UWP has bring in ideas and a breath of fresh air so the DLP is now aggressively trying to implement all the ideas and their excuse is we should all play a part in nation building.
Well if after 14 years that’s the best you can do I am sorry. By now you should be telling us of the fruits of your policy. You should be telling us how well the farmers are doing because of the markets you help establish 14 yrs ago. You guys fooled people on foreign built and developed infrastructure where Dominicans benefited very little. Now you guys are aggressively trying to remain on power. If you are so convinced we should all play a role, then step aside. You had your time and tried. Let someone with better ideas get some time to contribute as minister of trade.

We have understood the Guadeloupe and Martinique market since the days Rosie Douglas (MHSRIP) was lobbying for such. In a nutshell, (1) these two islands, our IMMEDIATE next door neighbours, by virtue that they are departments of France ARE our gateway to the EU market!!!!! What does the EU market want… 100% Organic.. Product of the Commonwealth of Dominica. (2) We also know that Martinique and Guadeloupe are heavily affected by the insecticide chlordecone (Kepone)
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2010/jul/13/france-pesticide-health-scandal-chlordecone. An unfortunate situation but, this also offers a tremendous marketing opportunity for our fresh vegetables, and root crops in particular. The consultancy should keep these facts close at heart!!!!

MR. McIntyre Sir. You meet export earnings for non banana crops at $27 million when you came into office. Lets the people know your record of achievement after 15 years. Sir, export earnings is now in the region of $5 million.

yes Pedro and if you take into account inflation in the mean time that figure is worth less than $4 million in a the value of the money it was then. You know, today I sometimes even have trouble to find ripe bananas for me to buy!

A lie is something which revels itself without the person lying through their tooth; know they themselves are exposing the lies they told. In the quote above the liar said “the government is in process of completing two major consultancies in Guadeloupe, Martinique, and St. Marten.” Now unless, I am stupid, dumb, or I am an idiot passant not familiar with the English language, perhaps my understanding and interpretation of the word consultancies is warped!

So I need help, because it is my perception that ” consultancies, and the word consultancy” apparently means basically the same thing; only that one represents singular, and the other is used in a plural sense. In any event consultancy, consultant, and consultation, I believe that to mean one who consults, or one who gives profession advise, or service to one who seeks their expert advise. It could be that I do not make much sense, nevertheless if Colin McIntyre is consulting with two firms on three different islands it seems to me that he would be looking for advise from six consulting firms, that makes no sense whatsoever.

You talk about expert strategy, the people you hope to sell your products to are your consultancies; will they teach you a strategy of how to sell to them?

So you see the lie people?

The man is full of empty hut air; after fifteen years in office only now this government is talking about finding agricultural market. in Guadeloupe, Martinique, and St. Marten. Dominicans has been selling agricultural products on the islands , from coconut to all else long prior to this government taking control of Dominica and screwing it up.

The only difference today, and yes-ter-year is that a so called Bishop in the person of Malzaire, dressed in his political attire sits next to a politician supporting his lie! There are some countries even in Africa, when a foreigner who play priest, and parsons, and bishops interfere in their local politics, they are expelled from the country. This man Malzaire wherever he comme from goes on a pulpit looking down at a congregation, which are not all supports of the Labor Party and try to influence their vote, that is wrong; there is interfering in out peoples business. We are not surprised that he is known as the Labor Party boy, he has sold his soul, for five ($500,000.00) dollars of the poor taxpayers; and reduce himself to the status of a puppet to the Labor Party. Shame on any human who subject themselves as a door mat to any government or political party!

This man is a joker. it take him 10 years to wake up l, election have them working hard.If there was no election do you think he would be bothered :-| This minister is reactive and never proactive. Election make him wake up. He single handed has failed the farmers of Dominica. The job was to big for him from day 1.

Delicious fruit and vegetables but these need to be displayed more professionally to entice the customers. People eat with their eyes and a good display of any product sells. Apart from that very well done – you all are doing a great job.

This is not intended as criticism but as an observation. I would like to see the minister officiating at maiden the voyage of a boat designated to transport agricultural products within the region rather that hear all the negotiations that the government is in the process of entering.

After 15 years of placing agriculture on the back burner, after 15 years of false promises about expanding markets, after 15 year of accumulating the largest trade deficit in our history, after 15 years of neglecting agro processing and abandoning of feeder roads, Tony McIntyre has the guts to keep telling us lies. We are still waiting for the boats skerrit promised years ago. CHANGE IS A MUST.
