Tropical Storm Fiona which has prompted the issuing of a storm watch for Dominica, was this morning projected to move much closer to the island.
Pascal of the Office of Disaster Management issued the following statement earlier today.
Meanwhile, parents in Dominica were advised to keep their children at home as the country is placed under a Tropical Storm watch.
The announcement was made by Minister for National Security and Home Affairs, Rayburn Blackmoore.
“The focus of this government is the safety of our people and we believe that parents should keep their students home for today just for caution,” he said. “We are advising that there should be no school today…to ensure that students stay at their respective homes and that they can be kept safe.”
According to Blackmoore there is no need to panic,” but we have an obligation as a government to ensure that our people are safe.”
He made it clear that today is a normal working day.
“Let us continue to do what we have to do, we have our individual responsibility to secure ourselves, our homes and to clean our drains around us…,”Blackmoore remarked.
He added, “We continue to pray for the blessing and protection of God, but we also have to protect ourselves.”
