Two men from Chance, Portsmouth, are now remanded into custody at the Dominica State Prison after a charge of murder was brought against them by the police.
Cleton George and Remington François appeared before Chief Magistrate Candia Carrette-George on June 2, 2023, where the charge of murder was read to them. It is alleged that between May 23 and 26, 2023, George and François murdered 18-year-old Kernelle Benjamin at Chance, Portsmouth.
The accused men were not required to enter a plea since murder is an indictable offense, which is expected to be tried at the High Court before a judge and jury.
On May 30, a six-day search for Benjamin ended with the discovery of her body buried in a shallow grave at the back of a home near the Portsmouth Hospital.
During a previous interview, Benjamin’s mother, Melissa George, informed Dominica News Online (DNO) that her daughter was last seen in the Chance area on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, and up to press time no family members or acquaintances had seen her, nor had they been able to contact her because Benjamin did not own a cell phone.
At their court appearance, George and François were unrepresented. They will return to court on September 5, 2023, for the start of their Preliminary Inquiry (PI) to determine if there is enough evidence for the matter to be tried at the High Court.
I see police beat a young man for no reason I wonder why the ain’t beat those 2 animals I not saying police should beat ppl but in a case like that let them get beat
Condolences to the family of the victim! Please do not insult animals. Those two guys are not animals as stated. Animals kill for food, in self defense or to protect their young. These two murderers are cold bloodied, heartless predators, plain and simple.
Hanging or the guillotine should be an optional deterrent, these Rising crime rates need a nib at it’s tail, having these criminals seating in jail is a burden to the system taxfully
Instead of calling the case on q95,the media whore should allow law enforce to do their job. With that said, these criminals should be executed by a firing squad. The problem is,the victims cannot defend themselves..Case of murder in the first degree.
This are animals, not human beings. What has my country come???
My thoughts exactly! It’s disgusting. They always say the fish rots from the head and in my country’s case that is most certainly true.
” what has my country comes” Mathew, you asking a question only Edison James, Ugly Lenny, and his Halfwit Dribblers could answer in other words since that nasty bunch of suckers so-called UWP corrupt hooligans arrived Dominica, has not been the same, having said that we are getting there slowly but surely dumping that evilness out of Dominica.
I think you mean they’re monsters, not animals.
This negative association with animals doesn’t make sense.
Lots of thoughts to her family at such a difficult and sad time
🙏 that justice will be served accordingly! Great initial job by the Authorities and all those who assisted thus far.
Hope police learned from previous cases. Make sure evidence is thorough and tight. Not like Azile case and others. You guys are already failing the country.
Don’t bail them monsters once is they that kill the young woman. Don’t wait 2 to 3 years to call the case beat the iron while its hot to shape it don’t wait too long
They both should be put in jail for life. Justice for the family. I pray to God that this family is comforted and receive all the help they need to get through this tough time. And hoping that no other family goes through this again 🙏🏾
There are many murderers who are walking among the regular population. It’s becoming scary out there.
Does law enforcement have any new and revolutionary strategies to curb crime and apprehend the criminals?
A gentleman was gunned down the other day execution style. The public has not heard of any progress report from the law men about this specific case. The people are like sitting ducks at the mercy of these felons.
Why is there so much loss of lives in Dominica? Is this country cursed? The country is losing many of its potential doctors, engineers, technicians and entrepreneurs.
I was hoping that justice would be swift. If these two men are found guilty by a jury of their peer, death by hanging should seal their fate.
I am not necessarily a proponent of capital punishment but to snuff out a life so young and full of such vibrancy, the culprits of this senseless crime should forfeit their lives.
For a heinous crime like this one, society has a moral obligation to protect the safety and welfare of its citizens.
The sad thing about this entire episode is that those criminals just get a “slap on the wrist”…and that’s it! Some even escape the slap on the wrist, and walk free!!!
This place is just a joke!!!
What about the murder in Grandbay?? Get those criminals out of our streets!
