UWP pays tribute to Dominican girls; child abuse remains a concern says Youth Minister

Youth minister Addis King, UWP Interim Leader Francisca Joseph

As Dominica joins the rest of the world to observe International Day of the Girl Child today, the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) is paying tribute to all girls in Dominica and will support them to realize their full potential as they transform the world around them.

This was according to a statement from UWP Interim Leader, Francisca Joseph.

“We promote their empowerment and fight discrimination and violence against their human rights,” she said.

The party also calls on all Dominicans to stand and protect girls.

“Don’t be silent when they are abused sexually, physically and emotionally by those who are supposed to protect them,” Joseph stated. “They have a right to a safe and healthy life, not only during those formative years but also as they mature into women.”

She believes that if girls are fully supported they have the potential to change the world.

“It is time for all to stand accountable with and for girls in Dominica and invest in their education and their future,” Joseph remarked.

Meanwhile, Youth Development and Empowerment Minister Dr. Adis King said child abuse continues to be a concern for her ministry.

“The current statistics paint a grim picture,” she said. “Child abuse is a clear violation of human rights and we need to work together to stamp it out of our society.”

Dr. King continued, “The Ministry of Youth Development via the social welfare Division has the lead role and is responsible for protecting children and adolescence from risk of neglect and abuse.”

She added, “We will continue to advocate for the prevention of child abuse.”

Dr. King pointed out that, “girls are strong, resilient, smart, innovative and can be the greatest asset to social change.”

She went on to say that girls are excelling in sports, education, and entrepreneurship among other areas.

“We want this to continue,” Dr. King noted. “We want to ensure that child abuse does not hinder your full potential as functioning women in society.”

The United Nations convention under the right of the child guarantees the rights for children to be free from violence, including physical and mental violence, injury and abuse, neglect and negligent treatment and sexual abuse.

International Day of the Girl Child is an annual and internationally recognized observance on October 11 that empowers girls and amplifies their voices. Like its adult version, International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8, International Day of the Girl Child acknowledges the importance, power, and potential of adolescent girls by encouraging the opening up of more opportunities for them. At the same time, this day is designated to eliminate gender-based challenges that little girls face around the world, including child marriages, poor learning opportunities, violence, discrimination among others.

This year International Day of the Girl under the theme: “Our time is now – our rights, our future.”

Its a pity that not much or NO effort is being placed on addressing the issues we have been facing with our young men. Maybe one day we see the error in our ways.

Dr. Addis King and every member of the entire Roosevelt’s maladministration, has no moral authority to comment on anything even remotely associated with the protection of our underage girls.

Here is a sexual child predator who carries water for the DLP on a phone call pro positioning an innocent, female juvenile. Not even one word of admonition was uttered by any member of the disgraced cabal. If this was Mr. Lennox Linton or any member of the main opposition party, they would not only drag over hot red coals, they would have been promptly arrested and placed in a rat infested jail cell.

Oprah remember this.Karma is a vicious, exacting female dog (Bi**ch).

word is she wasnt as innocent as you stated. However, the propositions were very unwarranted and no excuse for a grown man to be making monetary offers to like it is an auction raising his price only to taste it.

Well done Ceca. Do it for the young women and young girls in Dominica you are a mother first a woman with repect and dignity, many young women or young girls can use you as example . We have plenty of them in Dominica especially those in the lada party that encourage abuse of young women a girls and say nothing about it . Some of them even sell their daughters to the same guys for the next dollars. Speak out Ceca, speak out.

I agree 110% with your statement. The biggest abusers in our country are our own ‘lawmakers’ and ‘law enforcers’. The victims just don’t stand a chance. The ancient towns of Sodom and Gomorrah come to mind. That’s exactly were our country is headed. Remember: NO LAW AND NO CONSTITUTION… and he wasn’t joking.

Juanita, there is not a fictitious but a real Georgie Porgie hanging out at Kairie fm. Is this child predator untouchable or immune from prosecution?

In any other jurisdiction except for the worst rouge regimes around the world, this guy would have been promptly arrested and ostracized from the company of all decent minded people.

When I say Dominica is unique, and it’s a rogue state, this situation is incontrovertible evidence. I feel exonerated as I often come under scathing criticism by Rooseve!it’s hatchetmen.

So why did the DLP didn’t pay tribute to our girls? After all they are the government and Skerrit has Melissa, Dennis, Shakira, Roselyn, and Bonny in cabinet, not including those other ladies very close to Skerrit and those male dogs. What are they ashamed of? Do they only see girls as cat meat they can eat in food, whether those cats are young enough to be eaten or just too young to be eaten? Man look trouble I see

“Meanwhile, Youth Development and Empowerment Minister Dr. Adis King said child abuse continues to be a concern for her ministry.

I recall one of my favorite nursery rhymes as a child: “Georgie Porgie pudding and pie, kissed the girls and made them cry.” I was too young to know that “kissed” may have been a euphemism for something more crude. I think we can write our own Dominica version of this nursery rhyme, and along with pudding and pie we can include top ups, school uniform, bus rides, scholarship and job promises, and the list goes on. Those Dominica Georgie Porgies are bent on “kissing” little girls as they walk by and making them cry. But the nursery rhyme Georgie Porgie was a bully who ran away when the big boys came out to play. Sadly, the big boys may now be the chief “kissers”. On International Day of the Girl Child and beyond, we the big girls can pledge to smoke those Georgie Porgies and their enablers out of their holes.
