Unprecedented chaos in Haiti as gang violence escalates

The beleaguered nation of Haiti which is already grappling with political and humanitarian crises, is now being consumed by escalating gang violence. The situation has reached unprecedented levels with powerful gangs attacking key targets, including prisons.

The most notorious gang leader -a former police officer- has called for ‘liberation’ while alliances among =the =gangs have been shifting rapidly. This has led to the declaration of a state of emergency after gangs stormed two prisons and freed thousands of inmates.

The violence has forced the closure of banks, schools, and government =agencies. The gangs now control approximately 80% of the capital, Port au Prince, according to the United Nations.

The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime released a report last month highlighting the increasing power of these gangs. The report found that violence is part of well-defined strategies designed to subjugate populations and expand territorial control.

    I do hope we put restrictions on people coming to Dominica. It’s true we cannot tell the good from the bad, But we have to take a good look at the ones that we are letting in.

      Hussey, how could the government check who’s coming in from Haiti when the majority of them are coming in through the open Backdoor? And how many more people can Dominica afford to take in? We already have much more Haitians here than Dominica citizens. If you are so concerned about whoever coming in then you will have to talk to your friend Roosevelt about that. Maybe he’ll listen to you; but I doubt it. I see that you are beginning to see the light.

    This is what happens when corruption is allowed to continue out of control. Dominicans take heed.

      Corruption on the part of those countries that created chaos in Haiti for one reason only. We have figure that out. That’s why those countries have used from papa Doc to baby Doc to removing the other guy and erecting the current fella, just so you think it’s the Haitian People. But it’s all smoke and mirrors.

    You keep on mentioning the people of Salisbury.When you do that you will always get and answer.Salisbury is the unsolved murder capital of Dominica.Starting with Dorrel Bedminister who was found dead in his car in Salisbury.A 14 year old school child was murdered.near the police station in Salisbury.People have been shot to death in their bedroom in Salisbury.People have been stabbed and killed on the roadside in Salisbury.A few years ago the UWP supporters blocked the road in Salisbury they refused to let a vehicle take one of their own to hospital,the man does,A young man from Salisbury killed another young man in broad daylight with a piece of 2×4 in Roseau.So you Shaka Zulu must be one of those habitual criminals living on Salisbury.I know Salisbury well,and there have some real loving people who will give you any and everything.But there are some real ignorant boowo pandy.All Salisbury people are not saints,your F++++++ ahole Maltwavy and lazy Shaka Zulu.Go take a bath Jellsantie.

      @Shaka Zulu
      Those cowards won’t go. They would rather resign. Their strength is to follow some elderly citizens walking in Roseau on a Wednesday, with camoflage uniform and battlefield weapons. It’s a broken CDPF, with extremely weak leadership.
