Consider the small size of Dominica’s overall population. Then consider the miniscule size of communities such as Yampiece. Once again Dominica/Dominicans show how little control/foresight/interest there exsists in developing their land. There is absolutely no reason why the few hundred people living in these little “ghettos” can’t be assisted in creating a better living environment. Its amazing the things we can achieve for sewo and other pointless purposes. But when it comes to real, sustainable development, we can only think of band aid solutions. Dominicans who live abroad, its time to come together not just during election season but everyday to help our people with such simple problems. Our small size should be used to our benefit for once!

    @ faceup and @ cyrique

It saddens me to read these ridiculous comments by you. These brothers were innocent victims of a crime perpetrated on them by a vicious family from grandfond, mornejaune and funny riviere cyrique. And for your information one of them is an engineer by profession who was just visiting his mother for the christmas and was so attacked and before you go about judging nothing is wrong with people from Yampiece it has produced doctors even from that same family of brothers who were attacked, policemen, nurses, teachers and many other area of professions so you must not judge the area by the works of a few who may incite problems but rather look at the bigger picture. Its my sincerest hope that wherever you are from is comparable to heaven because last time i checked every area has crime of its own. obtuse blogger

@destroyers. Just wondering about your comments. Are you biased. I know for a fact that a young lady (girlfriend to the younger bro) is the cause of all the problem. Sheis forever pestering those same ones you called vicious and many others. They have made a lot of warnings to the police in town. Sad that the elder brother would be hurt taking into account that he just visited his mother for the Holidays. But we must call a spade a spade as you well be know that the young woman in question can really be disgusting and some men and family must understand that they cannot just run into battle without knowing the facts. I noticed that this is the norm with our people… they just jump to conclusion without hearing the other side. I am sympathetic to the brothers but when you have a troubled person in your life always getting trouble for you, you must know when to stop the s*** boy. Speak to the young lady in question about her behavior.. you can probably make a difference.

Do not blame them. If it were possible, readers should have been given more information of the victims. We do know those who get shot in especially places as that and are involved with guns have a bad reputation. They are not people with good characters. What happened to cause them to be shot?
We are aware that such occur everywhere. However, for Dominica, a small country, it will continue to surprise us as we feel these occurrences should never happen in our peaceful country of D/ca.
I resided in Dominica up to adulthood and we never experienced the likes of such criminal activities. They will always shock us. We are making no excuses. We wish such criminal activities would be eliminated for good where nationals could live in love, peace, dignity/ harmony and safety. There was much more of these godly virtues in those days.
What happened today? The hearts of those people have grown cold, heartless and godless. This is the problem. If only they could be…

Powerful! Well said and much needed. Thank you for providing deeper insight. We are often too quick to voice our opinions when it relates to others. We can all benefit and prudent if would process our thoughts and actions by reserving judgement, learning the facts and offering concrete solutions before unleashing our ineffective and sometimes sanctimonious and dogmatic approach. Violence of any kind not only affects the immediate family; but has a chain reaction. The increase in violence has changed the landscape of a once safe place, community life is forever changed. You stated, one of the victim was visiting his mother for the holidays. That could be any one of us. Enough said. Again, thank for an appropriate response to the less informed.

  6. The Facts
    December 31, 2014

Just when I thought there would be no more shootings/murders, they have not stopped. Yampiece is an area consisting of poor people. I wonder how many of them are law-abiding? Such areas where the poor reside usually have a stigma of also drugs, guns and other weapons. How did those people end up there in the first place? Was the area given to them by the government or they appropriated it for their living quarters?
Consider the children who are born to those parents. What type of nurturing do they receive? In the long run as lifestyle patterns and improper nurturing repeat themselves. Consider the effect this type of area and living could have on them?
The government should assist those people who reside in that area which does not give Dominica a good name. to educate and elevate themselves from that type of lifestyle and to obtain some sort of gainful employment.

You ignorant cow. You know little about the situation and you’re quick to judge and point fingers. In every community there are people who are defiant. It’s true the community has a reputation but to put EVERY inhabitant within the community under the same bracket is just outright foolish. Get to know the information first before blurting out and making a fool of yourself.

What a way to end 2014 and to start 2015!! I’m just wondering whether those two are responsible for the theft from the poor in those two villages. Min not pleased that they were shot but if they are the culprits I would be delighted that they’ve been caught! Hope it’s them.

    • Lang Mama
      December 31, 2014

The thieves did not rub the poor instead they rub the treasury and as as I am concerned the treasury is not poor. If it was then presumably honorable men and women , lawyers and party hawks would ok d have a conscience.
