UWI scores 100% in global rankings for SDG partnerships

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) has achieved a perfect score in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings by strategically focusing on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to enhance its academic reputation and global research profile. Through the establishment of joint global centers and initiatives with renowned universities, The UWI has actively promoted advocacy and development outcomes related to sustainable development over the past decade. Particularly noteworthy is The UWI’s exceptional performance in supporting SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals, as evidenced by a perfect score of 100% in THE’s evaluation metrics.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles expressed pride in the recognition received from Times Higher Education, emphasizing the importance of implementing multiple strategies to realize The UWI’s vision. THE’s Impact Rankings commend universities that excel in advancing various SDGs through their research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching efforts. The UWI also received high scores in collaborations and health services for SDG 3: Good Health and Well Being, gender equality for SDG 5, environmental education for Climate Action (SDG 13), and research partnerships for SDG 17.

This recognition coincides with the upcoming launch of The UWI’s International School for Development Justice (ISDJ), scheduled for later this year. Serving as a significant milestone in the University’s journey towards sustainable development, ISDJ aims to provide education that equips current and future activists and leaders with the necessary knowledge and skills to advance the UN SDGs. Leveraging The UWI’s extensive experience in online education and unwavering commitment to the SDGs, ISDJ stands out as a pioneering institution in this domain.

Participation in THE’s global impact rankings for the fifth consecutive year underscores The UWI’s consistent recognition as one of the world’s top universities. The acknowledgment of The UWI’s intentional efforts in generating and disseminating knowledge to support various UN goals within its strategic plan highlights the University’s dedication to advancing sustainable development on a global scale.
