The United Workers Party (UWP) has launched a campaign encouraging the Dominican public to “Do Nothing.”
The campaign set for Monday, March 4, 2024, is the party’s way of saying “enough is enough.”
“People talk about action, we are going to act,” President of the UWP Lennox Linton said to hundreds of supporters gathered in Roseau during a peaceful rally on Sunday. “Your assembly here today was a wonderful act of patriotism and interest in the development of your country.”
He continued, “And we must speak so we understand one another and we understand clearly what we are going to do together going forward…and I am saying from next Monday we start doing nothing.”
According to Linton, the hashtag that will trend over the next seven days is, “Do Nothing.”
“Because we want our young people employed, because we want our elderly better taken care of, because we want the people employed in Dominica to be making better salaries and better compensations,” he stressed.
Former Prime Minister of Dominica, Edison James who is also in full support of the campaign told Dominicans, “From Monday I am asking all Dominicans to do nothing, get up from your bed, go and take your bath, make your coffee, and apart from that do nothing.”
Meanwhile, member of the UWP Clement Marcellin commended the supporters who showed up to be part of this very important meeting.
“You cannot be afraid to stand for the development of your children, my child, the neighbour’s child, and those who are abroad struggling,” he remarked. “I want to commend every one of you standing here, I am proud to say that I am standing on the side of truth, on the side of righteousness.”
He added, “You need to stand up and say enough is enough.”
Marcellin said he will not stand here silent while the young people are suffering.
“You cannot be comfortable as Dominicans with what we have today,” he stated.
Furthermore, he mentioned that his involvement in politics is, “to ensure that the next generation, their lives are better than mine.”
He encourages Dominicans to stand up as the bright people that they are and put their minds, hands, and heart to work and start moving Dominica forward.
“Let us take our land towards prosperity,” Marcellin remarked.
And for those who may want to report to work and afraid to Do Nothing all you must do is to call out “sick”. Just “one day”. Do Nothing. This simply means stay away from ALL work. In other words, the market should be closed, Nurses should attend only to emergencies, Policemen just sit at the canteen and drink rum all day, scavengers just firmly hold onto your brooms. Michael Laudat, that’s for you also, stay home (if you have one), All radio stations should be off. All in all, the country should run on auto pilot on Monday and if the auto pilot fails then crash the country crashing. Its already on the verge of crashing anyway under Roosevelt Skerrit as first officer. Let it be like the stock market. Black Monday. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Put the brakes on them!
I like the DO NOTHING campaign but it we also need action.
We must also do and say nothing about those who choose to do something in protest against the cabal

I guess that all of the people who are against the “Do Nothing” move suggested by the UWP would no doubt call Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. all sorts of names including “Crazy.” Change is never an easy pathway; but change is possible and unstoppable. Do Nothing. If you must sacrifice your job for a change to better your country and life of humanity; then it’s worth the effort. Most people are usually reluctant to make changes because of the unknown consequences or risks. Without taking risk there can be no progress in life. The status quo will remain as is.

The keys to make this ‘Do Nothing’ campaigned work are unity and numbers. Nothing incumbent politicians fear most than an enlightened and restive electorate.

This current administration has imperiled most lives of the citizens except for theirs and a few minions.
Under the DLP stewardship the cost of living keeps on galloping while the salary of public servants has remained stagnant. For many families more than one meal per day is rear. People are hurting. Their empty stomachs are growling. Flatulence and agony are these suffering victims constant companions.
What is even most galling is the incumbent dictatorship is comprised of over fourty ministers, senators, advisors, consultants and ambassadors who collect obese salaries for mediocrity and low productivity.

A do nothing campaign. What type of campaign is this and who suggested this ridiculous strategy? Is UWP indirectly calling for a nationwide strike? The conditions on island are different from the one in 1979 therefore I don’t believe you can achieve the same results.
