UWP urges government to enhance citizen security amid gun violence concerns

The United Workers’ Party (UWP) has expressed deep concern over the recent arrest and subsequent fine of Dr. Kenneth Darroux, former Foreign Minister under the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) government, for the illegal importation of gun accessories into Dominica. Dr. Darroux pleaded guilty to the offense and was fined $5,000.

This incident has brought increased scrutiny to the recent surge in gun violence in Dominica, including murder and armed robbery. The UWP has highlighted the number of unlicensed firearms in Dominica, some of which have been used in unsolved murders and other violent crimes. The party also drew attention to the unresolved theft of police firearms from a police station in St Joseph.

The UWP criticized the government’s recent attempts to introduce a gun amnesty as half-hearted and called for more decisive action to tackle the growing problem of gun violence in the country.

The UWP is urging the government to take stronger measures to curb gun violence on the island, impose severe penalties on lawbreakers, and generally improve the security and wellbeing of its citizens. The party also called for a thorough investigation into the theft of guns at the St Joseph police station and improvements in the security and storage of guns and ammunition at police facilities.

The UWP further stressed the need for more stringent controls to curb the importation of illegal arms through air and seaports and called for greater efforts to stem the flow of these weapons into Dominica.

The UWP views the actions of the former minister as a wake-up call to the serious danger posed by the influx of illicit weapons into the country and the urgent need for firm and decisive action by the government.

DNO: “This incident has brought increased scrutiny to the recent surge in gun violence in Dominica, including murder and armed robbery.”

Really, DNO? Scrutiny by whom? In what numbers? This matter was hot in opposition media for a few days. It lasted even less time than the Hospital voicenote saga. inaccurate. Go figure. The fact that today you have some noise by the oft-rejected UWPee is a good indication that they are attempting to resurrect a dead or near-dead story in an attempt to score points, which, of course, will not work. Your assertion is therefore without foundation.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 4 Thumb down 6

Spin, spin and more useless spin. Amazingly, those like you who know better continue to spin and aid in making the populace slaves in their own country. But my friend, god has it for all the spinners who abuse our own people. Mark my words!
