A trough system is currently generating unstable conditions across the island chain including Dominica. Satellite and Radar imagery indicate that moderate to heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms have been affecting Dominica throughout the day.
A Flood Warning remains in effect until 6:00 pm on Friday.
The forecast is for shower and thunderstorm activity to continue to affect the island today into the weekend with rainfall amounts ranging between 1 to 2 inches and higher amounts in elevated areas.
Reports from yesterday’s (Thursday) events indicated that sections of the island experienced rising waters. It is therefore likely that Silted and or blocked water-ways may promote the potential for flooding and landslides.
Persons in flood-prone, mudslide and rock fall areas are therefore urged to take all necessary precautions to protect life and property. Motorists are required to exercise extreme caution when traversing the roads especially along waterways and roads already compromised by the passage of Tropical Storm Erika.
Persons in already vulnerable disaster areas namely Petite Savanne, Dubique, Coulibistrie, Boetica, Colihaut, Campbell, Fond St. Jean, Pichelin, Check Hall, Good Hope and Paradise Valley in Bath Estate are particularly advised to exercise extreme caution and where necessary move to safer locations.
The system is being monitored by the Met Office and the Office of Disaster Management and further advisories will be issued to the general public by 12 o’clock today.
Should be sending workers home at 1 especially those Going far up country.
