The Office of Disaster Management (ODM) continues to monitor the weather situation and wishes to advise residents to be vigilant and exercise extreme caution in moving around due to the possibilities of landslides, falling rocks and flash flooding.
Reports indicate that there is a slide at Scotts Head and the Ministry of Public Works and Ports is addressing the situation at the Grand Bay – Geneva by-pass.
Residents should continue to monitor reports issued by the local Met Service.
A Flood Warning remains in effect for Dominica until 6:00 pm on Saturday.
Modern science is able to give us warnings in advance of likely floods and hurricanes. People would be foolish not to heed these warnings and do what they can to avoid being hurt.
Children and seniors should be especially looked out for. This is our responsibility. Reviewing past news articles on DNO I noted that 12 seniors lost their lives in Ericka. These are people who should not be left alone when we know severe weather is coming.
Please have them with you. The time will come when you will appreciate having younger, strong, able bodied loved ones near. This is what family is all about. No family? Then let neighbors look out for each other! It is about doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.
The Advisor never there, air, ODM on remote control! The New NDC cannot talk so he have to wait on the advisor who never there, air, ODM on remote control. On Talk on the Block on Monday afternoon the advisor to the ODM tell Dominicans that everything is in place for the hurricane season . Really Cecil? When you were outside the ODM could do nothing right at least that’s the impression you gave on the same QFM radio. Today with less than three months as advisor ODM is more than ready garcon ou bon! W hat a difference time makes.
When had we ever had stable weather in DA?
It seems to me that the building of Bridges will be a yearly ritual for many years to come until the engineers who plan, design, and build those cheap inferior structures, understands that Dominica is a place prone to floods, and whenever there are floods the rivers crest over the bridges, damaging, and in most cases washing them away.
A child with commonsense would probably think of extending both ends of the bridges a further distance from the actual banks of the river, and rising the actual mid structure about fifteen feet over the river instead of simply keeping it at the precise elevation of the river banks!
Well, I suppose this new flooding will give our nation the usual opportunity to get some free food, and money from the internal community!
Some people from government to ordinary citizens are looking forward to the pending disasters; they are praying for it! Certain lady’s are hoping a few ten thousand dollars cheque’s will be entrusted into their hands, and then…
Francisco:
As an engineer you know why some bridges are vulnerable. I don’t want to offend anybody but (sorry – just been honest) I don ‘t have a lot of confidence in anything built by the Chinese. Readers of DNO know I am not racist. This is based on my observation and a lot of attention given to the media.
But “free food and money from the international community” is not a bad idea. You know the scripture that says “If you see your brother in need…” This is no more than an individual OR a nation should do. The scripture that says “Give and it shall be given unto you…” also applies. Those who help others are investing in their own futures. It will surely come back to them many fold!
Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.
Why is it that those warning come after the rain begin? What is wrong with the people doing the forecast that they cant let people know before.
ODM Warning!!! Unstable Government affects Dominica!
Why you think the big stones were placed in the rivers? The stones help to slow the speed of the water put them back
I do not support this comment.
Again, our bridges are too low or the Rivers need to be dredged.
Yes, the bridges are too low with mid-stream piers that lack wedge shaped cut-waters to deflect debris. The design of the proposed new bridge is no exception.
Rivers resist being constrained between training walls, especially in their lower reaches. Hence, widening rather than dredging is a better solution.
Roger, Thanks for this wise solution, i’m not an Engineer and less than an engineer and i’m seeing it.
What office of disaster management? Didn’t you all let Don Corriette and all his staff go earlier this year and now have a part timer on contract? Let me tell you. it will rain all through monday and maybe some dry weather on tuesday. Nothing you did about the Granbay Geneva road after Erica and let it get worse instead. Don’t come and ask for our vote again, you hear.
when they dangle a carrot in front your face next election, you will still vote them
very baseless comment from an uneducated idle disrespectful idiot
If you are really from GBay please tell your parl rep the word is Cabinet not CabiNOT!!!!!
Stay safe Dominica.
