Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Fenella Wenham- Sheppard has announced that work is rapidly advancing on the Goodwill Secondary School (GSS). The GSS which was severely damaged following the passage of Hurricane Maria in 2017 is one of the six schools that will be built under the China Aid Project.
The schools are valued at over US $30 million, or over EC $81 million.
“I am pleased to report that work is rapidly advancing at the Goodwill Secondary School,” she said.
She continued, “The site has been fully cleared and the foundation bedding of the school building has been completed and very soon we will see the structure going up.”
The contractors, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), began the demolition of the existing structure on Monday, November 13, 2023.
The Government of Dominica, in partnership with the People’s Republic of China, broke ground on September 6, 2023, for the construction of the new secondary school. Upon completion, the GSS will be designated a Center of Excellence for Technical Vocational Education and Training with facilities for Food Preparation, Electricity, and Electrical Installations, Garment Production, Fabric Design, Technical Drawing, Auto-mechanics, Visual and Performing Arts/Music, Industrial Arts, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.
Other features include counseling, pastoral care and special education rooms, a sickbay, a fully-equipped library, science labs, an auditorium, a canteen, staff quarters, and a multipurpose hardcourt.
partnership is a cooperative relationship between people or groups who agree to share responsibility for achieving some specific goal. this is suppose to be for us Dominicans yet the only persons enjoying the economic benefit seems to be the foreigners, namely Chinese! since it’s a partnership, why isn’t the workforce reflecting this partnership? or is it that the partnership is so one sided, that only the Chinese need and require money? We as Dominicans just have to watch and not participate in our very own development as a society, especially since we don’t need or require money!
rapidly advancing just how it going to rapidly get old and fall down
When Grandbay gets old and fall, we all get old and fall. When Grandbay stands up, we all stand up. How about that?
A real pity the Dominican Engineers were not given the job. No money for our people. Dreadful.
No Jackie, they will name it Do nothing for 7 days high.
I hope this school is also wheelchair friendly, most of the buildings also the surrounding area of Roseau is not handicap friendly…
