On Monday, June 12, Cricket West Indies (CWI) officially announced the match schedule and venues for the highly anticipated West Indies versus India Men’s Series in July and August and Dominica will be hosting one of the matches.
The series will start with two Test matches as part of the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship, and Windsor Park in Dominica will host the first Test match from July 12-16.
“We are delighted to be able to confirm the schedule and venues for the highly anticipated visit by India,” Johnny Graves, CEO of CWI, said in officially announcing the schedule. At a press conference in May, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced that the West Indies Cricket Board wrote to the Government of Dominica inviting it to submit a bid to host a Test match, to which the government agreed.
Skerrit said the government will be making a contribution of US$250,000 to the CWI for Dominica to host the Test.
He went on to say that this was done to “spur economic activities.”
“So the hotels are going to be filled,” he stated.
“The restaurants are going to make money, the taxi operators are going to be making money, the bus drivers are going to make money to carry people … so it’s all in an effort to encourage economic activity in the country.”
The second Test match, to be played from 20-24 July at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad, will be historic, marking the 100th Test match played between the two teams.
“One of the highlights will be the 100th Test at the Queen’s Park Oval and this promises to be a fantastic occasion as we celebrate this historic event between these two proud cricketing nations,” Graves said.
He said the Windies team also looks forward to hosting India in the white ball fixtures and welcoming fans from across the region and the United States.
“It will be 18 days of entertainment for cricket lovers to enjoy and savour”, he stated. According to the CWI, the two Tests will be followed by three CG United One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and five T20 Internationals (T20Is).
The CG United ODI Series will start at Kensington Oval in Barbados with the first and second matches on July 27 and 29.
The CG United ODI Series concludes on August 1, at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad which will be hosting a West Indies Men’s ODI for the first time. Following the ODI Series will be the T20Is bowl-off at Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Antigua on August 3.
Guyana hosts the second and third T20Is at the Guyana National Stadium on August 6 and 8. According to the CWI, the T20I Series concludes in Lauderhill, Florida with a blockbuster weekend of back-to-back matches on Saturday, August 12, and Sunday, August 13, at Broward County Cricket Stadium.

@MEME, when it comes to cricketers today, it is definitely a case of horses for courses. Each of the three major formats (Tests, ODI, T20) require different cricketing approaches, mindset and skill sets for sure.
High strike rate batsmen like Brandon King, Johnson Charles and Nicolas Pooran score rapidly and tend to light up the scoreboard in a jiffy and usually feature for the West Indies in the shorter ODI and T20 formats while more patient and slower scoring batsmen like Shai Hope, Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul are better suited for the longer Test format.
In a nutshell, T20 and ODI require a hit and run approach while Test cricket is more like a war of attrition where patience at the crease is a more welcomed virtue.
The US$250,000 contribution for Dominica to host the test, plus what has been spent on repairs to the stadium, is a mere drop in the ocean in comparison to the real cost of keeping the stadium functional.
In 2016 a report stated that annual maintenance costs for the stadium will fall between 7% and 10% of its total cost. Given that the construction cost of stadium was a conservative EC$60,000,000, this amounts to over 4 million dollars to 9 million dollars annually!
Correction: EC$60,000,000, amounts to over 4 million dollars to 6 million dollars annually.
I have to commend the Roosevelt’s administration for bringing test cricket to Dominica. This is huge.
If Dominica’s own, Alick Athanaze makes the final eleven (11), this will draw a mammoth crowd to Windsor Park. Hope his presence (once he is selected) in the team will inspire the up-and-coming young cricketers in the country to thrive to make the senior WI Cricket team in he not too distant future.
I also wish that the weather will fully cooperate, five days of glorious sunshine and a cloudless sky.
Toto,the majority of Dominicans are NOT interested in electoral reform.Go around the island ask questions and you will know and,I know you know,the vast majority of Dominicans are not interested in electoral reform.It is like the UWP supporters who say Skerrit is a liar,the majority of Dominicans believe the people who say Skerrit is a liar are themselves bigger liars.It is dictatorship for a handful of UWP supporters to impose electoral reform on the people.To do so there must be an attempted coup,which will not go in favour of UWP.It is always the PEOPLE.
This is a very worthwhile investment. You wanna hang with the Big Boys, it will cost you but always consider your return on investment.
India is the second ranked Test team in the world with a deeply passionate and huge global fan base. Dominicans are some of most knowledgeable cricket fans anywhere. I guarantee that the home and visiting fans will turn out in record numbers for this one.
Expect to see Dominica’s own Alick Athanze in the starting line-up barring injury.
Come on skerrit, don’t leave us in the the “dark”, tell us what all that money is for, for 4 days?? So the players accommodations , meals and entertainment is who’s responsibility?
Jobless, You wont be paying for the meals,accommodations and entertainment so what is your problem? Also Pm. Dr. Skerrit, do not have to answer to anyone of you disgusting scallywags. So get out of here!
I wonder if that is the same Windsor Park Stadium UWP and their supporters called a white elephant?
Lin, where is Elizabeth? Is she sick? I have not heard anything from her in a long, long time. I miss her. I am guessing that you and Man bites dog know something. Let me know.
ds, Elizabeth, made a brief appearance about two to three weeks ago since then nothing, but I sincerely hope she is okay.
@ds
Ask Dodds Telemaque…They were close!!
Not because we lock horns ever so often, I often wonder about her myself. I hope she is in relatively good health even as we climbs the stairs in age.
What about KID ON THE BLOCK? I also hope nothing adverse has befallen him.
Hotels will be filled? By whom?
Who travels to see WI play cricket?
If England were touring the West Indies I would be more inclined to believe that, but not India playing against the West Indies.
St. Lucians, Antiguans and the other cricketing nations in the region do not go to watch cricket in their own islands, does Skerrit really believe they will get on a plane costing an arm and a leg to travel to Dominica to see a game that will last barely 3 days with a guarantied defeat for the West Indies.
This guys lies in his sleep.
Man, scurry back into a hole where all zandolis live.
At last, some uplifting news but please, do not forget electoralg reform Roosevelt.
Panem er circenses, indeed.
So we bought a test match for EC$600,000. Plus all the money that now has to be spent on making the stadium test cricket ready. For a form of cricket less and less people are interested in viewing. How many Indian sports tourists are we expecting to make that kind of “investment” justifiable?
@WeNiceMan
That’s the form of cricket that gives you the rock solid foundation required to adapt to the shorter form or version of the game. I like it.! . So you are dead wrong. Shorter version is not just “voop” ! “voop”! and the ball is over the boundary. Your defence must be solid. Otherwise, good bowlers will use you as a pappyshow, and you will soon be dropped and forgotten.
You are not addressing We Nice Man comments at all. It has nothing to do with the type of cricket to be played but everything with the expenditure to cause a diversion and draw people’s attention away from the Electoral Reform fiasco, which Roosevelt Skerrit is not Willing to address at all cost.
@Toto
You have a serious difficulty in understanding english language. You that’s the wrong player here not MEME.
Are you serious with that post, or maybe you are disappointed that a test match is being played here? Dominicans love their cricket so they will attend the game
Stop being so negative.
