NYCD statement on the Passing of Hon. Edward Registe

It is with deep sadness that the National Youth Council of Dominica joins our nation in mourning the loss of one of the pillars of our country’s democracy, the Honourable Edward Registe.

Registe, who was the parliamentary representative for the Grand Bay constituency as well as Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations, also played an integral role in the formative days of the NYCD where he served as President and continued to be very instrumental in the council through the 1980s- 2000s. The council has also received information in light of Registe’s passing of his work as a founding member of the Caribbean Federation of Youth- what we know today as the Caribbean Regional Youth Council (CRYC).

The early President was one who always advocated for the amplification of the youth voice which leads us to remember his words at the NYCD’s 2011 General Assembly where he stated, “The NYC must be the voice of the voiceless youth. There are many who cannot, will not and are unable to express themselves and represent their own interests.”

On behalf of the Executive and General-Assembly of the NYCD, we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and constituents of the Grand Bay constituency during this time. May his soul rest in peace and may his legacy for youth advocacy live on!

I have wondered and I have asked, ” What does it mean when we say, may his/her soul rest in peace. I have also read of the saying, “Peace on earth and goodwill to men” and there is a parable, “What you sow is that you will reap” There is another parable, “Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are”. Now let me focus on the latter. Does everyone who is King Liar’s (Skerrit/Dominica) friend the same as King Liar? Now the former. Does every man who is on earth peaceful? Mark you, Peaceful may not necessarily mean (without) hostility or war. Peaceful may also mean without (no) cheating or without (no) lying etc. etc. Now the Peace that we are asking the deceased to rest in should be his/her peace that was sown on earth. But if the deceased sowed hostility, sowed cheating and lying etc. etc. how can that deceased soul be laid in peace? (For your information, this writer does not referenced this particular deceased despite using King Liar as an example).
